No worries & no so fast w chopsticks on this end, as the CL ad posted as "1968 GTO" and as Greg pointed out "That pink LeMans has been on the ultimategto site for years. Has the special paint data plate to go with it. I think it's legit." so looks like we're all correct in one way or another on this one.
Interesting if it's been "on the ultimate GTO site for years as a LeMans" and the advertised Window Sticker shows it as a GTO, well "you got some 'splaining to do Lucy!" Right? ![]() Chrome nosed '68 GTO or really a '68 Lemans? These kind of things can be fun to research, investigate, document and discuss IMO.

Well, I'm pretty sure it's a LeMans but we're all used to guys advertising Tempests and LeMans as GTOs. I just saw a 4 door Tempest on another thread advertised as a Tempest GTO.
One thing for sure is that all of the '68 GTO special order paint cars I've seen came with the chrome front bumper. I don't think Pontiac would sell you an endura with the special paint as they were still working out the kinks with the adhesion issues.

Wondering Out Loud if that "Pink Mist" OEM color was a solid or metallic paint? Conflicted w the "Paint-Solid Special" v "Pink Mist" descriptions. CL car in question appears to be a solid color, yes? |

My feeling is that it was a non metallic paint.
Speaking of metallic vs non metallic colors, if you look at the standard paint chips from '68-'69 at least, I've noticed that all of the metallic colors use the word 'Poly' in the naming...but...notice that Windward Blue was one of the special codes for '68 and it does not use that word. If you look at a '69 paint chip card when Windward was a standard color, it is called Windward Blue Poly.... So does that mean they added the metallic as it became a production color or did they just not use the word Poly when it was a special color? ![]() http://thefirstgensite.com/library/p...ntiac-pg01.jpg

A couple of years ago I owned a pink 68 GTO with the special paint code on the data plate. It too was a chrome front bumper car with white vinyl top and white interior. A friend of mine still owns it.

What's missing in this discussion is what a POS that pink GTO is. From the looks of the exposed sheetmetal and that vinyl roof, I hate to imagine what the metal under that roof looks like. Or the floorboards. Barring more information than what's shown in the ad, I think "factory pink" is debatable, too. That's pretty obviously a re-spray.

You know, after all this discussion I never even looked at the Craigslist ad for the Pink GTO. That is a different car than the one I posted a photo of, which is a LeMans. This one does appear to be a GTO...and yes, it looks to be pretty rusty under that vinyl but it would be a cool car to see in restored condition.
As for whether it's an original Pink GTO, if I was going to fake a factory special order color, it sure wouldn't be Pink..I have to think that not many others would either.

Wow I never knew they made pink a color option for a LeMans or GTO! That's pretty cool, I love wild/crazy colors on muscle cars. I thought Mopar were the only ones to market a pink muscle car.

I will have to go through my archives to see if I can find the pictures of it. When I got it, it had been repainted white, but you could see the pink under the carpets, and weatherstrip areas from the factory. It was a very high option car and I assumed it may have been a Mary Kay cosmetic car. My friend who now owns it, could not go back to pink when he redid the body, so he had it painted gold. It is a very unique car because of the paint and options.

Even those of us who aren't '65 guys will probably spot this one. (Picture 7.)
If they missed something that obvious, can we trust them to have put oil in the rear end?

Bucket seatcover backs are on the wrong side...and I hate the wheels and tires but that's just me. At least it's 'a real 237 VIN GTO'.
