That Pegasus Mustang that's pictured didn't run very long, or very successfully, but was wild to watch. It was powered by a Turboniques unit, which essentially was a turbine mounted to the differential. There was no engine, transmission, or driveshaft...all the power was made at the rear by the little turbine engine, which was direct drive.

Seems like I remember a 65 or so Chevelle with one of those units installed. Maybe that was the car they used to advertise the unit.

yes, they did have a 65 Chevelle as well, it appeared to be one of the rare 65 Z-16 SS 396 Chevelle to from the emblems and trim on the car, if I get time i'll dig up a pic of it!

.....the '2nd most dangerous drag car' award. The 'Black Widow' was powered by a Turbonique engine, to the tune of 9.36 @ 168 MPH back in 1966, during that run it was rolled and destroyed.

Best of luck---I really dig those 70's T/A's that race in SS - S etc. One of my favorites was the HO RACING 74 SD455 T/A SS--I think it held the national record for a couple of years in NHRA--Keep us updated. Really like this pic.

I have match raced this car (63 Tempest in post # 261) several times at Norwalk in the last couple of Tri-Power Nats. It is owed by a doctor and he has a friend drive it for him. To my understanding I believe it's a clone built by the same guy who did Arnie's Tempest wagon. The one Arnie made a pass in several years ago. Funny story with the last match I had with it. The driver was told we were runing on a Pro tree. He was instructed to leave on the first yellow bulb....HE DID....they first STAGE light !! In his defense he had never ran a Pro Tree.
Made me feel a little goofy though....watching him leave before I even staged ..
He always beat me..I may have a surprise if it happens again,
