From Dennis' pic, I'd say Jan. 6 1971 1st shift?
483709 frame part #?
Hayes manufacturer.

Not sure I have any info on the manufacturer from service bulletins.

Hayes was probably East Coast. Southern is usually Parrish.

The problem with trying to crack the 70 Tempest frame date is
Its a 1970 Tempest built in 4th week June 1970 .
Jan 6 1971 isn't flush.

Not sure what its trying to tell us.
Maybe Dennis swapped frames under it ?

Hmmm, forgot his was 70.
Still may be Jan 6, but the '71' is for the line it was made on?
(which I wonder if the '30' on your example might be the line it was made on?)

BVZ, It's possible it is a different frame under the Tempest. I don't know the complete history of the car. I bought it in 2018, but it is super solid and clean underneath and everywhere. I need to double check to see if that picture of the frame stamp actually belongs to this car. It's the only picture with the date, so I wasn't totally sure it was from this car.

I'll have to check the frame again next week after we get back from the TA Nationals. I might be able to get to my '70 Judge to see if any frame numbers are visible. I've never been so interested in frame numbers before...lol!

Interesting that Mike's '71 GT-37 has the same stampings as the picture I posted...Midwest & east coast supplier must have been Hayes.

Leaving this morning in the '70 Formula and '69 350HO Birds. Meeting Norwood in Van Wert, OH. Looks like dry, but warm (what's new) weather for the event and the drive down and back...yah!

Dennis your picture looks like a frame that has been to the beauty shop.
Maybe its from one of the 455 cars you guys have had hands on.
Its the 455 part number frame.

Hayes must have used an ID code sticker instead of an imprint for application.

BVZ, We're back from the TA Nat's this afternoon and it was a hot one! 93 degrees and only '2-60' air conditioning! Anyway, I was way too hot and sweaty to crawl under the Tempest when we got back, so hopefully this weekend I can take another look at the frame stamping. The pic I posted may very well be from another car.

Each year '70-72 Pontiac 455 A-body (non boxed) frame had its own 2 letter code.
HF, HW, & J? (gotta ck) in '72.

For the '71 2 door 455 HW coded frames, I'll have to go out & do some checking, but I believe I've noted 3 different production dates. On the '71 HW coded frames, they are from AO Smith & Hayes, have never seen one from Parrish. Have owned 2 455 HO cars out of Pontiac home plant & five '71 455 & 455 HO cars assembled out of Fremont plant. All of the Fremont builds were early winter to late May of 71 built cars, & I can't remember such a wide gap of a 7-16 frame in any of the later ones.

Of note, Fremont & Pontiac plant were the high production '71 Pontiac A-body plants, followed by Lakewood GA. Framingham Mass built a few, but just a small fraction of Pontiac & Fremont production. Oshawa also built a very few 455 cars, none as GTO's.

About 10 years ago, Chris Haggerty sold on eBay an HW coded 455 frame out of March Framingham built '71 455 HO GTO. It was either a 7-16, or one from the August run. Do remember that I noted the wide date gap, & attributed it to the low production of 455 Dport & 455 HO 2 door A-body's out of the Framingham plant.

So, I bought a 70' last year that had been in storage since around 86. It has a NOS frame under it along with a slew of other NOS parts. I think the part # is a 72' 455 HD frame.

So by noting HD, you mean it is a '72 convertible frame? that's definitely a rare frame, would love to see more pics with the exhaust hanger mount out of the way.

Just don't see a 2 letter frame ID code & unfortunately, dint have a '72 Pontiac A-body Assembly manual. Checked the Sundance HO car, & it's 455 standard frame is coded JA.

Yes, it is a convertible frame. There is a faint stamp next to the "B", but not sure if it makes up the 2 letter code.

I figured out what frame that stamp was from...not my Tempest, but Dan's former '71 455HO T-37. That was the original frame paint since the car never saw any street miles.

Below are the '70 Tempest's frame stamp "PARISH" -- 3960733 -- 6_23_70_2.
The build date on the Trim Tag is 06D, Baltimore Plant.

Hmmm...not sure why the frame pics inserted upside-down...???
