Watching SS E-2. Monte Howard just won a double breakout race. So, he & the Bird are goin to round 3.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjUCuxHu0b0 Cool to see the lone Pontiac, still going rounds, after all these years. By the way, Randi Lyn Shipp is the co-announcer for this race. Michael Brand moved on to round 3, in Stock. Last edited by ponyakr; 03-20-2021 at 08:50 PM. |

Shucks ! Monte got treed in round 3.
BUT, Michael Brand won his round ! So, the SD455 powered baby blue Bird is the only Pontiac left. Last edited by ponyakr; 03-20-2021 at 09:31 PM. |

Bo Butner ain't gonna race Pro Stock much this year. So, I assume that Randi Lyn won't get to race the Bird much either. Last edited by ponyakr; 03-20-2021 at 09:51 PM. |

Michael won round 4 !
If he can win round 5, he gets a bye into the final. How cool would it be for an old Pontiac to win this BIG pot. ALL RIGHT ! Michael gets a bye into the final round ! A few drops of rain brought things to a halt, just as Michael was ready to make his bye run. Last edited by ponyakr; 03-20-2021 at 10:52 PM. |

Michael won the Stock portion.
But he lost the Stock vs SS final. Wonder how bad it feels to lose $40,000 ? |

And to not win it being that close too. Was a hell of a race though first drag race my kid watched all the way through w me. Just wish he’d won it in the final w real Pontiac power that would have been so cool. But he took stock so that’s pretty big still.

Here are pics of Brad Koivisto's '74 Ventura & Michael Brand's '73 bird, from the SSS event.
Notice that the Vent has a flat hood, with no shaker scoop. But, it still has the GTO grill lights & GTO decals. So, I suppose all that is OK with NHRA, since he's been running it that way for a while now. Michael changed over to the shaker hood/scoop when he switched to the SD455 engine. Considering the non-original set-up on the Vent, I wonder if the SD455 Formula could get by NHRA running the FG twin scoop Formy hood ? It was suggested by a guy on the Class Racer site that Michael & his final round opponent MAY have decided to split the big pot, before the final round. That makes good sense to me. I think that's quite common at the big money bracket races. Last edited by ponyakr; 03-21-2021 at 08:22 AM. |

This FB page has lots of video & short interviews with drivers. One of the videos shows Brad Koivisto's '74 Ventura, in the staging lanes, along with a short interview. Brad calls it a GTO, even tho it does not have the GTO shaker hood.
