First letter is month cast (A = Jan, B=Feb, etc.)
Next to digits are day of the month. (01-31).
Last digit is year. 9 = 1969, 0 = 1970, 1 = 1971, etc.)

D 01 1 would be April 1st, 1970.

You mean ‘71 right?
Thank you very much for info.
Im going to check date codes on heads to see which year they are from. Which will tell me small or large chamber, correct?

Default Correct. The typo got by me. I even re-read it twice before I posted it.......

In the example given, the production date would be April 1st 1971.

But I'm pretty sure that all the 9799140 blocks were cast in 1970. Thus the freudian slip.
