Use game Cam to determine if there is a pack. Most likely. If so, perform eradication like an ambush. Take out the low levels first and work up the pecking order/end of the line to eliminate the whole mess. They will stay organized that way, and you can get all of them. If you screw up and kill the Alpha first, then there is chaos, and they will be harder to eliminate. These things have been re-introduced by our oh-so-knowledgeable Fish and Game Agencies. Some places have bounties on them now, making the cycle of stupid complete. Or, since they are harmless, let them overpopulate and screw up the neighborhood. They will take that fox population right out first thing. Blast 'em!

Yep the void from extirpated wolves over the last 150 years left a niche for unrestricted growth and also the balance of massive deer re population and smaller game with brushy grow back in clear cut pine forest etc.. Now its the hybrids of coy-dog and the coy-wolf mixed into a super coyote that is bigger. I have seen some large and beautifully colored ones near my home. Seems very large is pretty common now. Listen to this deep tone canine we recorded off the Red River and the possible track from it by camp. https://app.box.com/s/u7asal07du3b6miyr4s4

I took this picture about 10 years ago - he had crossed my front yard and was on his way across my neighbor's.

I've finally located a game camera from a friend. I should have it no later than this coming Sunday.

I've had 2 people suggest this method for getting rid of coyotes. I cringe even as I type it.......

Tie off a thin cable to something solid and throw it over a limb. On the other end of the cable attach a very large fish hook (one person mentioned treble hook). Securely attach a piece of chicken (any type of bait) to the hook. Shorten cable as needed to make the bait reachable only by the coyote jumping a bit.

Wait.

Come back out with a gun when you hear the coyote raising hell.........

Pretty harsh there.....They'd have to be a pretty severe threat to me to do that to one. Also, with my luck I'll hear him raising hell at 3:00am on a day when I have to be up for work at 5:00am....OR, he'll grab it during the day while no one is nearby.

Also probably very illegal. You have to remember that some neighbors dog could get it as well. I have no problem with killing them but it should be as quick and humane as possible while also eliminating the chance of killing non desired species. I have used crossbows for bigger game than them and they are quick, humane and quiet if you are good with one. Hope to see some game cam pics.

Choot him! Choot him!

Sounds alot like one of those 'Gator catching tactics on TV. Bet it works, too.

Sounds excessive & cruel to me. Call a game warden.

I agree. If they can't handle it they should be able to advise you as to what is legal for you to do.

In PA, coyotes are open season because they do pose a danger to livestock, pets and humans. You can even shoot them during deer season. If you have nuisance animals such as coyotes or bear, the Game Commission will trap them and relocate them.

Around here, we have coyotes, but you'd be more apt to hook a bear than one of them. That hook trap is highly illegal and indiscriminate, and poses a real threat to local dogs.
