What type of head is on that bolt.....6 or 8 or 12?
Maybe that's they key. I have surely Muther F'd a few of those middle bolts. They are very nice headers. I agree, one of the best aftermarket pieces that I have bolted on the car.. 6 months after I originally installed them, I had a valve cover leak on the way home from the beach, and that oil cooked hard, I never did get it all off. I just sent mine to be Jet Hotted again......I never used any sealant, and they never leaked. very nice product indeed. Wench's holding wrenches would be the better pic.

Hey David, thanks for posting the pics.. They look SWEET!!
Do you think the Doug's would clear a stock starter? |

Probably, but it would be tight and that's not good.

My kit did not come with bolts....I think mine are 4 side bolts.
I ended up having to use a mini starter, and put a heat sleave over the cables to the starter. The heat soak was a problem with the headers.

Ive installed the Dougs headers in my 69 GTO and they went right in. I used the stock starter and is not to bad if you need to remove it. Just have to take off the trans inspection cover. I removed and installed the starter while on the ground to hook up the wires to the starter. Ive got the Ram Air engine wiring harness and installed the Ram Air cable shield tube like it was described in an issue of HPP magazine. Im using the Pypes exhaust system and the system is so nice. Instead of using the clamps that came with it, I used AccuSeal stainless band clamps and got a much cleaner look. David you had a great write up of the install. It gave alot of good tips. I havent fired it up yet though. Ive got a 1970 455 with #96 heads in the GTO.

great thread
Getting ready for my first engine swap- 350 out 428 in - Haven't pulled the trigger on the RA manifold verses Header decision yet, but I'm liking everything I've heard about the Doug's so far.
Anyone done an install on a Standard tranny car? I've got an M-20 if it matters. Side note ? Haven't gotten a starter yet either, I think the one on my 350 is weak from repetative heat soaking and like to go w/ a mini, any suggestions as to brand or part numbers? thanks Howard

If I can catch a good Sunday when I'm not doing something else I'll be off to Steele and the 1/4 mile. My last attempt was screwed with a float bowl that went dry halfway through second gear. It still managed a 13.50. I've since swapped my Carter mechanical back on and of course I've installed these headers. If the float bowl still runs dry I'm not sure that I want to install an electric pump since I don't have any issues on the street. We'll see. David

If it's louder, I don't notice it. It does sound a little different up front but I personally don't hear more noise. Power? Hard to say without track numbers to back it up. I'd love to say it was faster but I can't prove it. One thing I like about a Pontiac, especially one with a hyd roller cam. They never quit pulling. I have a friend with a solid lifter 327 4spd 71 Camaro. Nice car and it is quick. We went to a cruise in together in my car a couple of years ago. On the way home I hammered it coming onto the freeway and let it pull all the way to just above 100 mph. He was amazed. He said something like "this thing never quits, does it".

Hard to beat easily holding the starter up with one hand while installing it.
