I back to back tested the HO re-pop against my factory cast iron intake and an Edelbrock RPM.
The iron and re-pop intake were both opened up under the carb to apprx the same size/shape as the RPM to take both spread bore and square flange carbs without an adapter. All of the intakes were port matched to a stock Felpro intake gasket. The test engine was a 428 (440) with 74 cc KRE aluminum headss (prepared here), Ross pistons on Oliver rods, 10.6 to 1 compression, and custom ground Comp HR cam using .361" XFI lobes, 236/242 @ .050". I used my 1977 Pontiac Q-jet part number 17057274 for all testing and an MSD ready-to-run distributor with total timing at 30 degrees. The RPM intake made 491hp, my cast iron intake made 497hp, the HO intake made 487hp, all with no other changes. I'd add here that the casting of the HO intake isn't that great. Whoever hired it done failed to straighten up the port openings and they are poorly aligned/sized like many of the OEM intakes were. It takes some effort to get a decent port match with one as some of the openings are off nearly 1/4" compared to the one beside it. I doubt if any of that accounts for the power differences in my testing as I spend enough time on it to make sure the port to head alignment was as good as it was ever going to be.........

Not sure. It would depend on the port size they used. The HO's have more material at the top of the ports than the iron intakes and why I used one for my 290cfm KRE heads instead of the iron intake.....
