I have a Harley Road king and have had no problems with it.The older harleys had a bad name for break downs but the twin cams are just as reliable as the metric bikes. The good point on the Harleys is that they will hold there resale value better than the metric bikes. But everyone has there own choice like pontiacs and chevs.

So, do Harley riders look down on Yamaha V Star and Honda riders?

No, we metric bike owners just look over at the Harley riders broken down on the side of the road as we drive by.........and wave politely.

Then it went on to say the "circlips" in the transmission were not "up to Yamaha standards". Well Geez, I hope not in this case!

I was just curious; really wouldn't bother me. It really is riding that's important.
I would rather ride a nice V Star 1100 Custom than a Sportster, any day. All the other Harleys that I like are out of my price range. |

hmmm, maybee rider error? or maybee you bought used and didnt get a good deal who knows, but my 97 evo runs like a dream!! and the twin cams are alot nicer than the evo motors. the stereotype you try and put on the harleys cracks me up! like i said everyone knows that the later shovelhead.....actually all the shovel heads and very first evos had their troubles especially during amf's run, but to here you talking about politeley waving at the broke down harly riders just reminds me of last summer, had a neighbor with a yamaha, dont remember year/model but dressed to look like a harley and whenever me or the other neighbor ' the other neighbore has a honda' would start ours up and take off he would usually get thye fever too and try and go fire his up and go, seen him out there several times puzzled as to why it wouldnt run

Agreed! There is nothing like the sound and feeling you get on a Harley. Butttttttt, for me there was nothing like having a $25,000 bike sit in the garage while I work all day.... and look at it in the garage all winter. I wont own another one.
That VTX is a really good looking bike. And I have heard some down here during the bike events that would make you cream your jeans.....just MEAN! |

Hard to say, but probably 95% of non-Harley riders will wave when they pass me, and maybe 5% of Harley riders will. I don't know if they're that much less friendly, or if they simply have a more difficult time maintaining control of the bike.

I bought a 06 1100 V-Star Classic new. I put 36K miles on that bike until I traded it in on a 05 Electra Glide in Nov of 08. That 1100 did everything I ever asked it to do. I wore out the first back tire and put a car tire on it. I got 26K miles out of the car tire. The reason I traded for the Electra Glide was I wanted to do longer trips in more comfort. I rode the 1100 for 17 hours straight in 30* weather in Nov of 08. It kicked my ass. The next week I bought the Electra Glide. You can't compare the 2 bikes. 2 different animals.
The 1100 would run circles around the glide in handeling and speed up to 90 mph. I was looking to put a big bore kit in my 05. My wife saw a 2010 Ultra Limited sitting on the show room floor. 103 cu inch engine. She said instead of doing all the work to my 05 just buy a new one. I picked it up 4 weeks ago on Sat. I have 1800 miles on it so far. We're leaving tommorow morning for Lake Erie. 650 mile round trip. We'll be back home on Sat afternoon. June of 2011 I'm heading for Alaska. 30 days and 10K miles. I want to do this trip before I turn 50. Get the 1100. You won't be sorry.

Yep......rider error when a brand-new bike breaks on the first ride...rider error when the bike needs 3 batteries in three years.....
It's the rider's fault......yep
