quote:
then maybe you will be informed enough to make comments about the '04 GTO.

For some reason I think that I am informed enough to comment about the two of them.

I was driving when the true GTO came out back in '64, and I have test driven the new ugly relabled '04 also.

I have owned 7 GTO's in my lifetime, and a few Firebirds also.

So, what makes you more qualified than I am? Hell, you are probabley not even 30 years old yet...

PS: I am at least informed enough to know when a loser is a loser...and that is what the Holden is in the US, don't need any website to figure that out, or do you?

I own an '04 and am quite a few years beyond 30. You test drove? What? The six speed? Many (and I mean MANY) people think that the Tempest is ugly. You don't object to the '04 because you THINK its ugly. I'm sure you think other years were ugly too. Tell the truth, you object to it because its what? and import? The best built GTO (aside from maybe the Ferrari GTO) to ever roll out of a factory whether U.S. or Australian? Again: What body would you have used to make it pretty? Still too scared to answer? What body should Lutz have used?

Personally, I don't care about pretty. I care that MY factory GTO can kick the a$$ of any other factory GTO ever built and ride better and get better gas mileage doing it.

PS to Goathead: How many units of any V8 RWD muscle car has any automaker sold? In order to be in the class of the GTO (and then not really) even the Mustang has to be in the Cobra package. How many Cobras sold in 2004? How many others?

PPS to Goathead: Finally, yes, before you ask, I have driven a '65. Personally I like the looks but it drives like a boat and handles like a rudderless one.

You have not driven mine, have you? Why are you coming down on a "true" established 35 year old legend? Are you running out of arguements to justify your relabled Australian clone?

PS Bonehead: If the old GTO was so really really awefull, why is GM trying to sell this car using that really really awefull name? Just food for thought...

Again, to build a completely new platform for JUST the GTO would have cost too much money in 1964 OR 2004. Pontiac used and EXISTING platform in 1964!!! So, what EXISTING platform should Pontiac have used in 2004? Tell me! Its easy to say just build one...blah blah blah. Personally a 350 HP sunfire doesn't appeal to me very much, nor does a V8 Montana or Aztec for that matter. Give me an existing platform.

They sure did. They put one big bad ass Pontiac motor in the smallest, lighest Pontiac body that they could, and made one hellava "don't even think about it" street car.

Now they just rebadged an import that can't even fit true dual exhaust on it and loaded some ships up headed for the land of the free...

But even then, it failed to "move" the buyer it was aimed at, whoever that was (I am still not sure about that either, and aparently, neither is GM)...

I think Danny knows what true dual are: Exhaust exiting the block and running entirely as seperate exhausts to exhaust exit. Most referance to "true duals" are made in context of appearance. The 04 GM Monaro has the appearance that somebody at Beavis and LutzHead Inc. forgot to install the obligatory fartcan commonly found exiting on one side.

More spin on the ignorance....... The GTO has, by any definition, true dual exhaust.

quote:
I think Danny knows what true dual are: Exhaust exiting the block and running entirely as seperate exhausts to exhaust exit.

I agree, he most likely does know what dual exhaust is. He just isn't aware that the GTO has it.

What color is the sky in your world?

True, but it is still "true dual" exhaust, even though it doesn't look like it.

By your twisted definition, the 4th gen F bodies have "true duals" (they don't, btw) since they exit on opposite sides, but share a single muffler.

Anyone that doesn't know that the '04 GTO has absolutely true DUAL exhaust really has shown his ignorance of this car. You know NOTHING about this car. TWIN cats, TWIN mufflers. The pipes never inter-twine from front to back. They only come CLOSE at the rear and even then exit SEPARATELY, dumba$$es. I own one and so does Tripower455, why don't you look at one sometime? Don't even presume to make anymore comments about the '04 until you have AT LEAST looked at one. Go back to the vintage model chats and show your ignorance there.

Yeah, Rabon, I read someone else commenting on the "lack of true dual exhaust", but it DOES have duals, they just exit side by side on the '04. By the way, I've now driven 4 GTO's, two autos & two 6 speeds, & the wife has agreed to the 6spd!! My shopping is over, will deal tomorrow with the dealer on a blue '04 that has sat at another dealership for 180 days!! Should be able to make a decent deal on it & I can't believe these cars haven't all been sold - one drive was all it took for me & I've driven 8 different models in my search (with the G35 being the closest contender in best fun with a back seat). IMHO GTO wins due to superiority in everything including price!

Here's an idea... Don't design a whole new car for the "GTO" name, but come up with a new sticker for the Holden!!! This move alone would satisfy 75% of the "Old School", and have no effect on the "young and clueless" or indifferent. Everyone wins!

Pontiac GTO: 1964-1974 R.I.P!

Isn't that what they did, only using GTO badges?
