Like Greg mentioned, the original block and heads are gone. The guy I got the car from bought it in the late 70's with a blown-up motor. When another engine was located they apparently reused the original intake and exhaust manifolds. The carburetor has also been changed out at some point. However the original transmission and rearend are present. I do not know where the car was sold at originally.

Good observation about the YW block MC. tanksteve has been kind enough to put up with my frequent e-mails over the last few weeks. If anybody has a good suggestion for a shipper to use please let me know. The block will have to go across the country from California to Georgia. Thanks for the compliment tanksteve.

Maybe try R&L Carriers. I got a complete, one-piece trunk pan through them. It was a HUGE box. Like a queen sized mattress. Since you have a business address with a dock to deliver to, it should be reasonable. http://www.rlcarriers.com/

Forward Air proved to be easily the cheapest at $189.61 from Sacramento to Georgia (terminal to terminal). Total weight of crate and block ended up being 236 lbs.

That's not bad at all. Considering the cost of flying nowadays, I might nail myself in a crate and call them up the next time I need to go to Cali.

That turned out to be one helluva Car.
It must have REALLY been hot that day Greg looked at it ! Has all kinds of goodies / equipments. 68 YW is a very difficult code to find. I have never found one on its own (outside of a #'s car). Sold Bob Copley a complete 68 YT for a Red/Red Hardtop Bird many moons ago. Then a couple/few years later PMD or PHS came on board for us. His car ended up needing a YW . He looked for years and eventually sold car - with the YT - iirc. Glad you guys found each other with such essence in timing. |

I'm with you BVZ. I typically like that stripe on the 'birds but I wouldn't be able to bring myself to put it on this one...It's so pretty just like it is, I'd be afraid that it would detract from it.

This is the kind of mistake I would not have expected PHS to make. They faxed me through a corrected set of documents. However the corrected set of documents and the ones mailed to me STILL had the YT engine code highlighted??? |

I feel really fortunate to have had tanksteve chime in here with a block available. I only made it to one local car cruise here in the Atlanta area this year and it was on the north side of town. This was my favorite car there. Any chance it is yours?

You can tell how well it has been cared for, a real cream puff. I did a search and came up with these #s. 68 400 HO auto- 684 Convertibles- 15.8 % of total 68 firebird production 68 HO auto vert- Rough estimate 108. Does that sound right ? |
