Brian,
You ain't making it easy on me are you. Ok so what your saying is because one flows 4oo cfm out of the box and the other 270 cfm out of the box.......that's worth $4,ooo extra. They both are cast out of the same Aluminum the same way, and both are using a CNC machine to machine them. I do understand that one (DCI) is set up for a roller cam and the other (KRE) a hyd. cam so the springs are way better in the DCI head but I still don't see $4,000 difference in them. You tell me why there is a $4,000 differance. |

GTOGeorge, They cost so much because marketing research has told them that is what people will pay. The way I look at it, anything new for our Pontiacs is a plus, even if I can't afford it. They will be going on my IA2 Lottery Motor however-LOL-Jim

Shaft rocker system most likely included in that price too, George...which isn't with the "lesser" heads.

Dear Pontiac Enthusiasts,
Many of you have received our flyer with the price list for the new DCI Tiger Head. But for those of you that have not, the prices are: DCI Tiger round port head stock exhaust location-$5,550.00 set. DCI Tiger D-port stock exhaust location-$5,550.00 set. DCI Tiger round port raised exhaust location-$5,850.00. DCI sheet metal tunnel ram to match heads are $2,195.00. They can be purchased with tops that will accommodate either 2-4150's or 2-4500 Holleys. We are also taking orders for the new IA2 block-$2,995.00 ea. The DCI Tiger Heads will come completely assembled with 2.25 intake valves, 1.80 exhaust valves, ductile iron seats, bronze guides, Comp Cams Titanium retainers, Comp Cams 10 degree locks, Comp Cams roller valve springs for lifts up to .900, hardened spring seats, Heli coils in rocker stud boss holes, Heli coils in exhaust flange holes. Heads of this caliber are expensive, but when you compare our features against what the competition is offering, you will see the value. When you consider what it costs for the competitors castings, machining, custom valves, roller valve springs, Titanium retainers, porting and polishing in most cases that will not even come close to the 390-400 CFM of the DCI Tiger Head, the value becomes apparent. We are currently preparing an engine with a 4.25" bore and 4.5" stroke to run the Tiger Heads on. When finished, we are going to install it in our test car, a 1992 Trans Am tube chassis car. After the racing season ends, we will dyno the engine and post results. We are working hard to provide you, the customer, with as much information as possible about this product. Unfortunately, there is only 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week and I do need to sleep, believe it or not. My desire is to provide a quality product for the serious Pontiac enthusiast. Some of you will buy them, and some of you will not. There will be competition that will try and rival this product, but there is nothing that I can do about that. As for the PHR Engine Masters Challenge, we are NOT using the Tiger head. For one, it was not available to the public when the applications were to be received by PHR, and two, the Tiger Head is intended for big inch or high RPM engines of which this competition is neither. (I don't know where that quote came from.) This years competition is based on 410 cu. in. engines and the test RPM is 2500-6500. So for at least this year, we are going to use a set of E-Heads. I am hooked up with two very good guys with many years of experience in Pro Stock and Nascar racing and we hope to place in the top 10. It is very tough to even make the competition, let alone place. DCI is very excited to be involved in this competition and very honored to be asked to be part of the Eicke/Woody team. For all of you that have offered your kind support, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you. Many of you stopped by at our booth at Norwalk to look at the New Tiger Head and offered many encouraging and complimentary remarks. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to all of you. Let's keep the Pontiac name and tradition alive. Support the many vendors and businesses that are willing to step up to the plate and provide you, the Pontiac racer, with new and exciting technology. Without your support, we cannot exist, and without us, the Pontiac tradition will soon become like the dinosaur--extinct. Sincerely, Don Johnston, CEO DCI Motorsports, LLC For those of you who would like to be on our mailing list, please call between the hours of 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. (eastern daylight time) (330)628-3354. Our phone rings off the hook, so please keep trying if busy. |

Great informative post from DonJohnson, good luck in the 410 shootout!
Tiger heads look like a great match for the many new 500plus IA motors. It takes some guts to put up time and $$$$$ to develope a product to meet or beat the most capable, already available heads. You have my respect for that courage and conviction. No doubt the Tiger heads will take the "obsolete" Pontiacs another step higher. I for one confused the Tigers with the Bulldogs in that I assumed a street capacity head would also be offered that might have been more suitable for the 410 shootout. I think the ambiguous blurb in the PHR article was editorial in that they wanted to give your new heads a plug regardless of the heads on the competion 410. Thats always good. Rumair, you and me both!

I live close to DCI's shop and have seen the heads in person and on the flow bench. They are are impressive !!! He just got 3 sets back from the foundery and he put a set on the Flow bench ( the 3 sets are pototypes ). They flowed 398 CFM on the intake side at .900 lift and on the exhaust they were 275 CFM at .900 lift.
I now owne a set of DCI Motorsport heads. I made him sell me the set he had on the Flow Bench. I could not WAIT these things are BAD !! It will take about 6 weeks before I can take delivery. Which is fine since this will be a long term project for me anyways. I hope to take pictures as the project progresses and will post the pictures ( please someone tell me how to post pictures ). |

Not sounding like a smart A$$, but I would prefer to see flow numbers at the 1.250 lift mark or how bout without the valve in it!

Fireduck. What size combustion chamber do these heads have. Flow at .900", while interesting, leaves a big gap. Do you have as cast flow numbers for the entire range of lift (both intake and exhaust)? Exactly how much pushrod tube offset is there? Inquiring minds want to know.

I could be wrong and someone correct me if I am but I think they flow close to the Superchiefs at .700" lift.

I think you have to fork over the $$$$ first and get on the waiting list and then you can measure them yourself. (;-)
There sure is a lot that is not know considering all the promotion. I guess thats to be expected with a new product

You would think that all this info would be out there. How can you sell something without releasing all the info for it. Things like cfm, combustion chamber and intake runner cc, pushrod offset, even at least one dyno result would be nice to see and have. I have all this info for the Super Chiefs and more.

FYI:
.900" lift is getting into Pro Stock territory. Both Jack Gaydosh and Scott Rex (who run Super Chiefs) run pretty tall cams, just exactly how tall I cannot say, but if they were in the neighborhood of .900" lift I would not at all be shocked.

The roller in my Nitrous 535 combo is over .800
Great to see another set of Pure Pontiac heads that will flow close to or around 400 cfm......and out of the box. And if they flow those Numbers unported. Even better. If they flow the same or slightly better then ported S.C's........ out of the box, even better. And if they have a better casting quality, even better. And if they don't have machine errors, even better. And if they have the capability to flow 450 with port work. even better. A high end head for high end use. and needed to keep up with the other aftermaket and different brand manufactures and the power they are making to be competitive with a Pure Pontiac Engine. Bring em on. |

That didn't seem to stop people from putting in orders before production? Also back in the begining people bought SC heads without info but told they had 400 cfm capability. |

Brian,
You are banging your heads against a wall with George. I have been there and done that. Some may not understand your point but I do. Same example can be applied between a Roush ported intake manifold and a Wilson Ported intake. Both by well-known in the industry businesses, BUT WE ALL KNOW which one is faster. What is done, why it is done, and how it is done can all contribute to getting a great part. I wish the DCI guys good success with their heads and the same for the IA-2 guys. Hint: Roush pays Wilson to have good intakes on his cars. Tom V.
