It might be illegal but.....Who the hell is going to know besides yourself and whoever you may tell????? By all rights if these cars had been driven since they were purchased new they would have close to 1,000,000 miles on them by now!!!!!!! 1/4 mile at a time!! Since the speedo only has 5 digits, accurate mileage readings went out the window years ago. I'm willing to bet that there are very few of us who know the actual mileage of our cars. Clock could have turned 2 or 3 times for all we know. Do what you gotta do. It's all good

Like I said if the odometer wasn't broken when I bought the car I might think twice about zeroing it. But as it stands the actual miles on the car is unknown so I might as well zero the car on a new motor and trans. I will certainly tell the buyer that I zeroed the odometer if I ever sell it which is highly unlikely

Its your car, do what you want. If you ever sell it, just inform the buyer of what yo udid and the millage before your rolled it back. Most people who own our cars don't expect the millage to be accurate anyway.

The only way it would be illegal is if you misrepresented the car. "Only 13,543 actual miles!!"

I'd have turned mine back if I had the patience. I put a complete set of different gauges in mine because I was going to (and probably will some day) ask Pete Serio to restore my originals. Unless you claim miles are original and have rock solid proof, no one will believe you anyway. And certainly wouldn't pay a premium for undocumented original miles. Well, at least unless they're rich morons. If you know one, my ride is for sale ;-)
And, it is completely legal to replage gauges including odometers in cars. As long as this is disclosed to future buyers.

I thought it was going to be a long process as well. I started by spinning it with my fingers and then figured out I'd be too old to drive by the time I got it to 0 then I treid hooking it up to a drill and that was going to take forever as well. Once I figured out how to do it the process only took about 5 minutes.
