No. Actually the 74 GTO was the ugliest. A nova is disguise.

The only "Options" will be either 6 speed or Auto. Other than than the the car is fully loaded

UGLY and GTO just don't go in the same sentence for me but I'd have to give the nod of the "least appealing" to the 73.

well to be honest this was a year ago at least. i was in kansas city at the time and XXX came out and they have some deal on there about the new GTO and i was happier then a pig in s*** to hear abotu the new GTO. what i found out was it was "supposed" ( notice the quotation marks ) to be the fastest GTO made. and when i seen what they look like i about got sick. after that i didnt do any more research on it due to lack of intrest.

well my point exactially is the little research i done on it was at least a year ago. im sure they were all hyped up about it comming out and making these statements to make people want to buy them. considering the car wasnt built yet i didnt realy research it a lot. then all they could do was project what it would do.

i havent heared anything about options. what will be available ? if anything. seriously $33,000 is a lot to be throwing around. why not wait to see what theyll do diffrent in 05. if the 03 Z06 new is around $43,000 new and does low-mid 12's. id expect that kind of performance out of the new GTO. if it dont run low-mid 12's why not get something that will out of the box ?

the only compitetion i can think of is a mustang ( i will never buy a ford ) or a Z06. if i had $33,000 to spend on a car id prolly go into the chevy dealership and throw it on a desk and say i want a 03 Z06 and see what they say. if they wouldnt take $33,000 its one he** of a down payment. i just like the idea of 405 hp out of the box and low/mid 12's. i was dissapointed they didnt make the GTO that quick.

Those who believe the hype about this being "the fastest GTO ever" had best be careful boasting around those with real GTO's. (Don't try any title for title runs).

Should you doubt the wisdom of the above, try mounting some late 1960's early 1970's (like the real GTO's had for road tests) rubber on the Holden SS and see how fast it isn't.

Remember those real "slow" GTO's have up-to-date rubber now.

The old adage about comparing apples and oranges???

Ah.... Factory Stock to Factory Stock.. yes the 2004 GTO is the fastest.

What was the fastest times in a "factory stock" GTO? Not some Wanger ringer or Royal Bobcat, but a off the showroom stock. Buy it, take it the strip stock. 14's? 13'S?

I dont think there is any place you find a new 03 z06 for $43,000. That might buy a base vette but the z06 will be more like $52,000. I just looked at them and a couple used ones. The best deal i could find here in Houston was a 2001 z06 for $39.995. I do see your point. I would rather get a used z06 than a new gto. But I dont have kids and i was just looking for a performance car. I can't afford either right now. I ended up buying a 2000 z28 for because i could not find a ws6 in my price range that did not have 80k miles on it.

Humbler - if you read my previous posts on this subject, I have always respected the Holden, and to me, that is what it will always be.

Nickv - By road test ONLY, the Holden SS may be faster than any real GTO; I cannot dispute this. However, those of us over 50 can remember 1964 and 1965 14 second GTO's that got into the 13's by simply changing rear tires to Atlas Bucrons (the poor man's slick); and into the 12's by installing early '60's slicks.

The 1969's and 1970's were quicker.

I doubt seriously that any real GTO that you find today at the strip (or the stop light grand prix) is going to be shod with mid '60's tires.

I would like to watch when some future Holden SS owner believing this crap tries out a '68 or '69 pink slip for pink slip! Again NO disrespect meant to the Holden. If you like new cars, it seems VERY nice.

Also, I agree with you completely about "ringers". I never took any "road test" seriously after I celebrated my 18th birthday. I really think the only ones fooled were the magazine writers. If you have a good run of "Road & Track", check out an issue (I believe in the '80's) with an article "Can We Build One for You". They really slapped Chevrolet for shaving tires on a test car. If I remember correctly, one of the magazine writers bought a new bowtie based on a "road test", and then couldn't come close to the road test time. And of course Pontiac NEVER had a "ringer"

Mod to mod, my guess is the new GTO still wins. Well all you have to do is turn a corner actually. Going to be nice driving to and from work, but my 70 will be the car of choice on those nice sunny days...

Things have changed since the 80's. I can attest to the fact I have not seen any 'ringers' - cars delivered to magazines are usually built on the regular production line and have no special treatment prior to magazines testing them. Having driving the new GTO, 13.6 sec quarter mile times seem very reasonable.

As to whether that makes it the fastest production GTO ever, one can argue one way or the other for days on end and not make any headway. Do we compare showroom stock to showroom stock? New tires on the old car in the old tune to showroom stock? New tires and fine-tuned old car to showroom stock? Does one allow a new chip on the new car to simulate a performance-tune on it?

It's obviously fast enough to be fun, and obviously has a lot of potential.

FYIW: The fastest "GTO" slogan is from Pontiac themselves, based on their data over the years. They claim that the fastest GTO was a 71 455HO GTO as tested by them. Something like 14.4 in the 1/4 mile.

in kansas city i was "training" to be a car salesman. in the showroom was a black brand new Z06 the sticker said $42,000. ive seen a millenium yewllow 03 here in ft wayne for $46,000 i guess it depends on where you live. i know they will go down in value but not $10K in 1 year.

The only option on a GTO is the manual gearbox...something around $695??? I think I heard. Other than that, everythings included in the price....you just pick the paint, trim colour and thats it.
