Piss on Mobley. That whole deal with him is an ego-trip anyway. All that money in his car and tow rig for a $1000 purse? Purse has nothing to do with it, it's all ego. Top Dog at 75-80, but any place else in the southeast and he'd have a hard time making the bottom half of the field.

Last night was awesone Jack was the underdog pretty much all night. One camaro (Mobley's) hadn't run slower than a 4.96 the other camaro hadn't run slower than a 5.14 all night. By the final round Jack became the crowd favorite. As a side note I believe Mobley's camaro holds the 10.5 record with a 4.54
Congrats Jack |

As well, Jack's race weight is 3550#, how much are the other guys weighing in at? The NSCA event last week was loaded with 600+ CID motors in Jack's class. And another thing, you guys down south mainly run 1/8 mile, we run the full 1/4, so gearing plays into this equation as well. Food for thought Herb

75-80's OPS rules:
General Rules 10.5 inch tires any make or 13.5 dot tires "Run what you brung" Pass NHRA safety rules Street appearing - mufflers Weight 3000 includes driver Back half of cars only from stock front fire wall back. Commercially available coil over conversions allowed. After market spindles allowed as long as they bolt to stock or after market control arms. Strut or shock towers required but can be notched for header clearance. Relocating of strut towers not allowed. Note: There can be suspension components mounted to or hung from roll bar tubing. 4/10 pro tree start No deep staging No heating NOS with torch Lil' Jack is giving up quite a bit in the weight department, about 500 lbs. I think. The "street appearing" aspect they may as well throw out, as some of the faster cars are pretty outrageous looking with their carbon-fiber injector hats sitting at or above the roofline.

Joe Deyton I believe has been 5.40's with his Firebird at 75-80, but I haven't seen or heard much from him of late.

Most of the cars weight under 3000lbs so they can put the weight where they need it. As far as motors go, there are several 600+ cubic/inch motors & 2 or 3 700+ cubic/inch motors.

Someone needs to step up and twin turbo an IA2/superchief or maybe a better head and build an oulaw car with that. All it takes is about 22-2400hp to win these races.
I went to a race 2 weeks ago and the cars were doing 1.08-1.12 short times.....running 4.64-4.71 times for the 16 car field. I am not currently running, but will be soon. I am building a new 25.2 chassis at the shop right now. I am building a customer's 598 twin 88mm turbo BBC for a 67 chevy II. The 598 has gone 4.71 on 2 systems, just not fast enough for a win. So, off comes the intake and pistons come out for flat tops.....and the work begins. |
