Mine has idiot lights too. I got the car from the original owners family it was how they bought the car new. It had wood grain dash & a/c I took out the wood grain dash and put in a black one.

Could it have been a special order that someone didn't pick up then they bought it off the lot this way?

Quoting from the sales brochure about '71 LeMans Sport

"Interior: Knit vinyl front bucket seats or notchback bench seat on hardtop coupe and convertible--Knit vinyl bench seat on 4-door hardtop--Pedal trim plates--Ashtray and glovebox lamps--Couirtsey lamps (convertible) --Carpeted lower door panels--Custom Cushion steering wheel--Nylon blend loop pile carpet--Safety rear armrests with ingegral ashtrays--Wood grain appearance instrument panel."

It would appear that the 140 mph speedo came when wood grain was on instrument panel which would include when Rally Guages were ordered, otherwise it was black pebble grain. At least in '71. My guess it would be similar in '72

OS 572494 would indicate it was Oshawa built. In those years I think St.Therese was a B body plant.

Does the GT have Rally Guages?

My T-37 has Rally Guages and 140 speedo and wood grain.

I'm almost certain that awhile ago we determined the following: 72 Cars built in late 71 had the 71 140 speedo. Cars built 01/01/72 and after had the 120 speedo with seatbelt warning light. I learned this the hard way when I got my 72 (built Nov 71). It had 140 speedo (which I thought was wrong) and I tried to put in 120 and found out the car had 71 wiring and seatbelt light wouldn't work.

does anyone know the productin number of canadian built luxury lemans 350 2 barrel dual exhausts with the 140mph speedo. so thatd be made before 01/01/72 after.. making my car a late 71, correct?

unless i find the build sheet or discode it, how do i find out the factory options for this car, like maybe the 140 was put in.. etc( although i highly highly doubt this) damn these cars are interesting, thanks again..

You can see the wood grain all around on my '72. It was built ~February 1972, so it has the 120MPH speedometer with the seat belt light (not hooked up).

You can see the entire interior with arm rests, door grab panels, seats, and rear ash trays in the below shot of the same car.

Smoking tires: Probably the easiest way to answer all these questions is to get the PHS documentation. For $35 they give you all the info: Build date, plant, options, etc. One of the guys can give you the website, I don't know it off hand.

Do you know for sure the car was built in Canada. I bought mine in Ontario (Sold there, lived there all it's life) Turns out it was built in Pontiac, MI

I can just about guarantee your car came with that speedo. To change them you would almost need to change the wiring harness and gauge pod.

Engine codes. 72 Pontiac 5th digit
D 250 6cyl
F 307
M 350 2bbl single exhaust
N 350 2bbl duel exhaust
P 400 2bbl duel exhaust
R 400 2 bbl single exhaust
S&T 400 4bbl
U&V 455 2bbl
W&Y 455 4bbl
X 455 HO
Maybe H is something Canadian. But the G in you vin shows as American unless they used a G up north too.

looks like the H IS A N looks similar and with all the dust and stuff on top couldn't read it

that shows 350 2 barrel which it is

also it says the second digit is either D or G as in d being leMans and g being luxury lemans so it is a true luxury lemans. 2 door coupe,N = 350 2-bbl V8 160 hp (dual exh.) model 1972 built in St. Therese, Quebec, Canada or oshawa ontario, production number 110w?34

The first (1) after the 2 denotes Oshawa plant, then the next six will be your production number.
