bullheimer, this is my only experience with them. I will admit that I am much happier with the sound of the Kenwood speakers in the kickpanels than I am with the Custom Autosound 4 x 10" dash speaker. Everything fit great, though, and overall I am very happy with everything.

67 GTO hardtop. I installed the Custom Autosound front dash "upgraded" speaker that goes in the original dash speaker location and agree with the comment above that it was not worth the effort, plus it was not a good fit. I also installed a pair of Custom Autosound 6x9 200 watt rear speakers in two holes that I cut in the package shelf and they are great with plenty of power. Now the rear speakers completely overpower the front speakers. What I wish I had done for the front speakers (I do not want to put speakers in the kick panels) was to try Custom Autosound's 120 watt "undercover" speakers that install under the bucket seats. It seems like under the seats is a bad place for speakers, but their tech line person tells me that they are designed for that location and they sound great (I realize this is his job, however). If anyone has installed these speakers under the seats, it would be great to hear your opinion.

i don't see a problem with putting speakers in the kickpanels

you can get kickpanels for $20 on ebay, and hack 'em up

as....i did....

you really get what you pay for, with speakers
buy $120 cheapies already molded in - the aftermarket things...and you won't be happy

you'd be better off spending the $100 on a nice set of 6x9's from best buy
they fit nicely in the kickpanel with minimal cutting - and plug right into the kickpanel in the car

with speakers - wattage means little
it's the quality that makes a speaker good

a 200 watt speaker is only as good as how many watts it'll put out clearly


i installed this all tonight - only one speaker working, so far


i had this setup in the last GTO I sold - now moving it to the convertible
it's loud enough that i haven't tested exactly how loud it could be

baron, my car has a/c, so no vent holes. No speakers are going to fit into a stock kickpanel, which sits flat against the metal of the body. The aftermarket molded panels worked perfectly, and the Kenwood speakers more than meet my needs; they sound absolutely great.

baron, I have another excuse for not wanting speakers in the kick panels. I installed Vintage Air in my non-AC GTO and ran all 4 hoses (2 heater and 2 AC) out through the passenger side vent hole. Otherwise I would have no problem with speakers in the kick panels.

My back armrests were already cut by a previous owner, I added the 6x9s to stay standard with the JBL speaker family I was using and to fill the holes that were already cut in.

Like I said on another thread similar to this one, when you sit in the back seat of my car you don't feel like you are at the concert, it sounds and you feel like you are IN the band!!
