OK if it takes 500 miles to break in a ring and pinnion how many 1/4 mile passes will it take to break it in? So with a new set of gears we have to gently run down the 1/4 mile for 2,000 passes? Wonder how many guys do that?

I saw another guy from Alberta I think that was sponsored by powertrax. The car was a mid 70's pinto with a alumimum headed 514, the car ran mid to low nines at about a buck forty. I asked the guy if he has had any trouble with it and he said no. He couldn't belive it was holding up either.

I just bought a 12 bolt rear for the 67/72 A- Bodys ,it has a 2:73 gear/positraction setup, will I be able to use this posi unit with say a 3.55 gear? I've seen listings that say 2:73 to 3:73 use the same unit. another one says 3:08 to 3:73 which is correct?

406, the 2 series carrier is what came with a 2.73 12 bolt car gear. It has weak 10-18 spider gear side gear count & should have 200# preload springs & thin plates. If vehicle it is going into is just a putt-around car, can have 3.08-3.73 gears installed with use of a $25 ring gear spacer & some loctite. Better bet, however, is to pull the 2 series carrier, clean it up, throw it on e-Bay (ought to go for $125-150), then take procedes (& some more) & buy a new Eaton 3 series 12 bolt carrier off e-Bay. These have 400# preload, thicker plates, better 10-17 spider gear/side gear count, just a MUCH better carrier. Can usually get in one for $310-315 delivered to your house.

Thanks OPH, I thought that a ring gear spacer would have to be used if I stayed with this unit, if I actually do swap this rearend into my car,I plan on street, some strip action, so your advice on the posi unit swap would be the way to go. glad to see there's a market for the 2 series carrier. currently running the BOP 10 bolt with 3:90 gears, stock posi unit, stock axles. how much power can a beefed up BOP 10 bolt take?
