I can do you one better. Two years ago I bought a NOS remote mirror on eBay that was supposed to include all of the hardware and a copy of the original mounting instructions. When I got the package (from ebayer jedi_clampett) the allen fitting was missing. I emailed and called him several times to ask if he had it and he just ignored me. (Unfortunately I had already left him positive feedback before I noticed the missing piece). So I was left with having to figure out how to fabricate the part.

I bought an allen set screw (can't remember the size and my workbench is so full of junk right now I don't know where the package is) and a common old nut that fit on it. I threaded the nut on the allen screw and held it in place with some JB Weld. Then I took the whole piece and used a bench grinder to grind down the nut and end of the allen screw to match the height of the original fitting (which I was fortunate enough to have from my other car). The heat of the grinder caused the JB Weld to give way, but not before I had ground the whole piece down to the necessary height. I then turned what was left of the nut down to the top of the screw and put some more JB Weld on the other end, then turned the nut back down on the end. Then I used a ball peen hammer to peen the end of the allen screw until the sucker was locked on there for all eternity. A little clean-up grinding and some more light peening and I had a fitting that worked perfectly. Cost me about ten bucks for all the materials, which includes a lot of as yet unused JB Weld.

While I was at it I made two, just in case someone else needed one. You're in luck, unless, that is, you want to make your own. I really liked figuring out how to do it and actually having it work when I finished. Here's a pic:

I'll let you hang on to your spare allen fitting, but thank you for your kind offer.

Where I work we have a huge machine shop and a pretty good hardware selection, I'll probably knock one out tomorrow on one of my breaks.

Still looking for that toggle lever.

b-man, the base of the fitting is 3/32" high. The entire fitting is 13/32" long. Just find an allen screw that fits in the mirror's threads (you can get them at Home Depot) and you're in business.

I just came back to this post and my jaw almost hit the ground. You have done a wonderful job of documenting this procedure. I rarely professional instruction manuals writen as well. X: Have you found that bracket yet? About the only way you can come up with an original bracket and allen screw is to buy a complete mirror assembly or else take one off a car with a crapped out mirror.

If your cables don't have the insulated cover over them, go to Home Depot and buy a piece of plastic tubing and slide it over them. It should be about a foot or so long, ideally covering the area from the control through the firewall. It should be just big enough in diameter to fit the cables into without crimping them in the process.

You can have my home made allen screw for $10 shipped. If the bracket in the PY catalog is correct then with this screw you should be in good shape. Send me an e-mail and let me know if that suits.
