Bill, a little bit about my car. 67 Firebird, bought it a couple years ago. The following is what I was told about the drivetrain.
455 bored 30 over (1970 motor)
1971 96 heads
RA lV 041 cam
hyd lifters
crane roller rockers
Race built B&M TH350
3.73 posi
Demon 850 carb
Tuned HEI (mechanical advance) with MSD 6A
Headers and 2 and 1/2 inch dual exhaust

Had the car out for a while a few days ago. It seemed a little sluggish and at around 4400 rpm it really acted up...like valve float. I checked a number of things and found them to be ok. Took valve cover off passenger side.......observed rocker motion while cranking engine. Most rockers appeared to have normal movement. A couple moved only a quarter inch or so.

I am thinking I have a flat cam. If that is the case and all the above info checks out what would be a good cam choice? I race very little but love that torque in the 2000 to 4500 range and enjoy an idling engine that sounds and lopes like it has a cam in it. Thanks, Del

Del, Since I am so far away, and can't diagnose the engine myself, I would suggest that you call, or go see Jim Butler. He is a true Pontiac guy and he knows his stuff. Give him all your specs and take his recommendation. I've ordered parts from him, and he is on the ball!

I think i have the heads narrowed down to #66 or #98. Now.....is there any way to identify which one without removing head? Del

Thanks for the good news Bill.....oh...bye the way.....weekend after next Centerville Arkansas and Rogersville Mo Dragstrips Open the season!!

It's time for a new cam anyway. Was hoping I could determine what cam I wanted, get it on the way and save a few days.

I did contact Butler today by email. They narrowed the heads to #66 or #98. Del
