I put a T56 in my '64 LeMans, mainly because I got a great deal on it. If I had to do it over again I'd get a TKO simply because I almost never use 6th gear, in my area (Sonoma) I can't really go fast enough to use it.

My main objective is a fifth gear (overdrive) for cruising, and it seems that the TKO II may be the one. Get's hot here in texas, and I like running at the lower RPM for cruising.

Tom, what I think I'm going to do is put the muncie in with my present setup and see where I am running at 2500 rpm, then get the proper overdrive gear. I will also ck the engines performance at around 2K to see if it is struggling....make sense? [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif[/img]

My 455 with the 214 cam will accelerate the (heavy) TA as low as 500 rpm in 5th gear (TKO+ 3.27 axle) if I feather it. pretty amazing how lazy one can get and get away with it with lots of torque. Oh that's with the air on!
This car gets an honest 19 mpg for all highway. What is a TKO II ? |

my cam is 245-252 @50 with 110 LC.It does not respond well below 1800 with the 4in stroke,maybe a 4.21 will respond better.I am thinking of trying a vac. adv. dist to see if it will help.My car with a tunnel ram and a pair of 750 AFBs gets around 16-17 MPG on the highway with 4.56s and the TKO.Tom

The ultimate 5 speed is the clutch assisted Jerico. 800 foot pound rating and 1000HP. When (not if) I break the Hemi 4 speed in my GTO that 5 speed Jerico will be the solution. Im just not able to put out the required cash for it right now.
