A pree lube will do little if nothing for the lobes. This is why you should keep the RPM's up to 2500-3000 RPM's. The lobes get oil from splash and a good primming will only get the bearing surface. I use Moly Lube every time, It is thick and sticks to whatever it touches. I change my filter and oil after breakin (50 60 miles) then I will change it again at 100. I hope I never have to go through a cam lobe problem, Good luck I hope you are able to get the people who are responsible to cover your loss.

What about inadequately cleaned engine? Are the cam lobes not the part of the engine with the most marginal lubrication, and so most likely to wear rapidly if there is particulate in oil?

Always good to wash the cam before installation. I have noticed most cams come out of the wrapper "gritty" feeling.

I would say it could be from too much seat pressure on the valve springs. Shouldn't be more than 120 psi. Ask your builder how much seat pressure he set the springs at. I would hold the engine builder responsible.
