Damn, must have punched the wrong buttons during the calculations ! Anyway, he favors the longer stroke with a small bore.... I'm only guessing on the stroke and used 4.500 because it seems so popular in the Pontiac circles.
Just more curiosity for the actuall numbers. |

Here are the engine spec's for Kaase's 509.
Bore 4.310 Stroke 4.350 combustion chamber 37 cc's Intake valve 2.23 Exhaust valve 1.72 Intake port volume approx. 310 cc's Intake port flow at .500 366 cfm@28" .600 394cfm .700 410cfm peaked at [email protected] Exhaust port flow at .500 244cfm@28" .600 266cfm .700 275cfm peaked at [email protected] Jon told me that he did very little porting to the intakes and almost no porting to the exhaust. Where he did most of his work to the heads was in the combustion chambers; he did not comment on valve position. I do know for sure that he did not cant the valves for two reasons. One, I personally seen the valve covers off, and two, the rules do not allow it. Jon would not take a chance of being disqualified for that. Jon's intake looked a great deal like the inside of our ported Victor that we are currently using on a customers 510 cu.in. combo with the Tiger heads. To my surprise when I flowed the head with the ported Victor, the head actually liked it a great deal in the mid lift ranges. The upper lift range had minimal or no effect. Looks like all the talk about the Victor not being able to keep up with the Tigers is fallacy. I would like to take a moment to thank Bob and Frank for bringing this great product to market. I spent alot of time and money designing and developing this head. These things do not just happen over night or, like some would like to think, even in a year or two. 37cc chambers, is that right? Must have been a large piston dish that mirrored chamber. What size head gasket? Valve reliefs? I have always thought that a symetrical chamber with 1/2 of the shape in the head and 1/2 in the piston would be ideal. Am I barking up the right tree? Will there be a full story on this engine anywhere? -Jim

from another site,Kasse made 820 peak HP and 762 TQ at 4900.He did not loose the head gaskets,the engine just went away as he was trying to cover the BBC which made 853HP.The pontiac and the BBC made the same TQ at 2500 but the poncho must have made more in the mid.Tom

It is interesting that Jon got alot more flow out of his 1.72 exhaust valve than the as cast head does with a 1.80 valve. Also Jon really picked up the intake flow. The as cast number from AllPontiacs web site list them as in/ex .500 318/211 .600 360/233 .700 386/249 .800 399/262. Averaging the number Jon got 397.75 for his intake compared to as cast 365.75 and the exhaust Jon got 267 compared to 238. Also from what I have read the as cast port volume is 310cc and in the DCI post he said that Jon intake port volume was 310cc. Just wondering how that can be right unless the as cast port volume has changed. Anyway it looks like they are killer heads.

My info is dated but...
Jon told me back in Feb this year he was planning to use a Carillo rod. Length depending on the stroke and pin placement which appeared to be up in the air at that time. His IHRA engines have a very small rod stroke ratio for what it is worth. Jim |

His IHRA motors with a short rod ratio and as I previously eluded to above he says it in magazine articles, like PHR magazine on his Ford entry for the contest that had 4.250 stroke.
Of interest, On a Pontiac combo with a 4.350 stroke using a IA2 block at a 10.235 deck a 6.7 rod length would work out. It would have a piston with a 1.36 compression distance (pin height). The rod/stroke ratio would be 1.54, which in most circles would be a short rod ratio. |
