Great find! What town was it in? I'm only about 12 miles from where Bucknam Pontiac was in Palmyra. Wellsburg is a bit of a hike from there. You have a lot of strange and interesting cars near where you are. I used to travel the southern tier a lot and there are still a lot of great finds in that area.

I saw that ad and didn't bother to respond- sounded like a typical rotted-out parts car. If that car was properly advertised as what it was, there would have been a bidding war. I'll bet that car ran at Watkins Glen and if so would be welcome at their vintage events. Keep me posted on the progerss, that car would be a very interesting feature car when it's done!

Again, congrats- You bought that car right!

You are absolutely right. Had Norwalk on the brain the whole day for other reasons. My car was built in NORWOOD. Thanks.

From the look of the invoice, it was a dealer/owner car. The driver, Buckham, is also on the car door.

That is correct the owner chris buckham was the son of the dealership owner and his grandfather started the dealership in the late 40's and was family run untill it closed in the 80's chris wanted to take over but gm wanted to sell their area to another larger dealer and he got shut out. the car was not sponcered by the dealership as chris was racing this full time

JUst got offf the phone with chris and heres what he had to say The car was raced in the solo 2 class so it did not have a logbook.
in 78 he drove the car from ny to kansas {with the slicks tools and floor jack and slept in the car]to race at hutchinson hutchinson and finished 7th out of 13.
in 1977 he won the NE divisionals in batavia
in 1982[the last year he raced it] he finished 11th out of 22 due to some vapor lock problems in the second race but had run as good as 5th against the sponsered cars
thats all the info for now will post more when i get it.

By the mid 80s all cars would have had to have a log book. He might have been part of the last group before the change.

The car obviously has many Herb Adams trademarks built into the car. The way the car is "tied together" is obvious as it looks just like the Herb Adams catalog info on how to do it right.

Looks like the safety stuff was done correctly too.

Will be a great project for you with a "History" you can be proud of when you get it done.

The last year he raced it was 1982 in the solo2 class that was when he started to upgrade it to go into gt one but in 84 when they allowed tube chasis he decided it would not be competive so it got put on hold [life happens] in the 90's he was the crew chief on the firehawk team. even the cage in the car started out as a herb adams piece that he modified with a one piece roof hoop and extra door and other bracing. thanks for all the input i hope to move this project along soon

Hot damn! What a find! Looks to be virtually rust free...what a great candidate for a period correct restoration. If it were mine, that's what I would do with it.
