" i have heard about problems with pertonix when just listening to the radio.something about the system shorting out. "
When listening to the radio, or anytime using electrical devices with the engine off, ALWAYS use the ACC key position. Having the key in the RUN position will keep power to the ignition coil, and that's true of Pertronix or a points system. With points, if the engine stops and the points are open, the coil draws no current, but ifit stops with the points closed, the coil will draw current and get hot. Always use the ACC position and you won't have a problem either with points or Pertronix, or any other points-replacement module. george |

I have used both, On my Nova I went with HEI and MSD6A and Coil. I have also used pertonix on my Fairlane and my friends Mustang. I see that both are easy and provide enough spark for what I we needed. However pertonix is by far the easiest way to go. IMO...
Keep in mind the HEI wast for a hotter engine but still they both worked equally well. Neither has had an issue.

I will not run points in anything any more. Too much trouble. I have a HEI unit in one outfit and Pertronix ignitors in the other 4. I have had more trouble with the HEI than the Pertronix. For the ease of installation and reliability I would recommend the Pertronix. Jeff

Looking to make a similar switch. Should I also change the coil? Any spark plug wire recommendations? Want to keep the car looking stock, but want a bit more reliability than points.
