What Rob said! make sure you get it nice and tight then clip it close and file the sharp edge off so it doesn't cut the rubber when it drops down.

So glue the seal back in the groove w/weatherstrip adhesive, then take a tie wrap and put it right over the rod seal where I glued it and cinch it down, cut off the end of the tie wrap as close as I can and file it if I need, then roll the dust boot down over the top and secure it over the flange.... sound about right?

ouch! I didn't explain it clearly enough..... you've got the adhesive glue and ziptie on inside out. Lets start over as with the actuator completely assembled. Pull the accordian dust cover up and off the actuator. (picture P1) Then pry the grommet end of the seal off the top of the can slide the whole seal up on the shaft inside out (Pic P2). Clean the top with the lip with some carb cleaner or paint thinner. Slide the seal up high enough on the rod so you can pull it back down so it's not inside out anymore (Pic P3) Then coat the rod around the groove with the weather strip sealant (or silicone). Hold the rod and carefully slide the seal back down over the rod until the lip in the boot seats into the grove in the rod. Then put sealant around the lip in the can and pop the bottom of the seal into the lip. The zip tie goes over the top of the seal directly over where the groove in the rod was. You'll need a much smaller zip tie than the one one your picture. We may be over engineering this as you really dont NEED a zip tie there and if it's too big it will drag on the seal during it's travel down the hole. Just coat over the seal and the rod at this point and it should be good enough.(note on P1) |

YES! Working hideaways! Amazing how well they work without vacuum leaks. Many thanks to all who helped, especially Dennis (aka gto4evr). I'm going to start a new thread so that everyone who buys the new actuators go through them before installing. Would have saved me a bunch of grief had I known prior.
