I have one of those scoops on my Lemans. What I like about this one is it looks like it would be easier to make it functional. The VFN goes almost all the way the the rear of the hood and is fairly wide.

well, i have the hood on the car. its still bigger than i had dreamed it up but i dig it. now its time for a little bondo and block sanding. I still have to figure out if i am going to use screens on the inside of the insert or fab up 2 small frames and tack in horizontal slats. i ll keep posting pics as i make progress.
thanks again. ![]() ![]()

WOW.... what a scoop! That is one serious hood scoop. I can see it now with Ram Air. But be careful Vic, don't get a seagull or two caught in it while cruisin up on the PCH. Goats don't like frikin seachicken. LOL

i decided to make some inserts for the insert. i went with horizontal slats to better resemble a stock GTO insert. they should allow plenty of air in but keep seagulls, rodents, hondas etc out of the engine compartment
![]() the main insert will be painted the same color as the hood with the 2 smaller inserts painted semi gloss black. also welded 2 studs to the bottom of each insert. they simply bolt onto the main insert so i can easily remove them if i decide to. ![]() ![]() ![]() i ll post more pics as i make progress... thanks again.

While I don't care for the "scoop on steroids" look, I do appreciate the chance to see it all come together.
BTW, Ford beat you to the oversized 65-67 GTO scoop...

pfffft, that scoop looks like it would'nt fair any better than a stock GTO hood scoop when it comes to pulling air in. looks like it too would be below the slip stream. also, i dont think of it as a scoop on steroids...more like a scoop on "performance enhancers"

6D6, can you put a screen behind it to keep out the bugs? Might be a good idea in the long run. I'd hate to hear she swallowed a few bumble bees and the engine went poof if you go ram air.
I for one like the looks of it. Can't wait to see it finished. It'll be one mean-assed hood scoop.

not worried about bugs. at the most i will simply run 4 inch mandrel bends op to the top of the motor WITH the K & N airfilter installed to get some cool air...i have the bends coming, i ll post pics after I fab up the fresh air intake.

Hal, I just looked at your wesite. Two words... very nice. But I have to comment on one thing you have wrong. Powerglides were in Chevys not Pontiacs.
I always thought they were powerglides too. I had a 66 Tempest with a 2speed in it.Quote:

No problem Hal.
I'm surprised no one else said anything. Now it's brought up a couple of other questions. Seeing the Super Turbine 300 was in a GTO, was it the same 2speed tranny in the Tempest and Lemans? And does anyone know if the ST 300 whill hold up behind a 428? Sorry 6D6GOAT, I don't mean to hijack your thread.
