Most of the good ones have been mentioned already.

I agree with PTC,Neal Chance, and continental as very good choices.

Also would consider ATI,and coan at times as well.

For budget "street/strip" stuff,I would look into a redneck, hughes,or possibly a BTE converter or such.

I always avoid TCI,B&M,and such "high volume" brands as SOP.

http://www.transmission-specialties.com/ These guys are good to work with I have had good to excellent results with a street convertor that did exactly as promised. A close friend has been using one of there spragueless convertors behind his 540 BBC trans brake combo that runs in the eights. He too has been very pleased going on 6 years with no indication of needing refresh. It has worked as promised also. FWIW they also manufacture components for other convertor companies.

I have also had Turbo Action convertor that flashed 5200 rpm on a 4400 rating but was well coupled through the lights, A POS B+M and an old Fairbanks generic 10" back in the 70's that left a lot to be desired.

I have used ATI for years with good results running 9.6 to 9.9 in a 3400 lbs car. I like their service shipping times.

TCI, when i got my converter last year, they did miss alittle on the stall, but it was a brand new motor, so i wasnt even a 100% sure, ran it alittle to see what it needed , sent it back no problems and they nailed it perfect when it came back, the service was great,i did try a coan a few years back... sold it at a swapmeet for half of what i had into that pos

TCS out of Vancouver builds a great converter. Even custom race ones come with a two year warranty. I have never waited more than two weeks to get one shipped to me and they have taken them back and repaired them no questions asked

My vote is for PTC. Oops Pontiacdude already said that, my bad

Seriously, I have had good luck with PTC and their customer service is really good. I had an issue pushing through the 9.5" so they upgraded me to a 10" pro-mod style for no charge. No complaints at all from me.

I know the question was relasted to high end race motors but I have to give a plug for Contental. I got a 10" continental from Chris years ago, back then it was street strip use. Over 13 years later I am still running the same converter running 10.50's in my 3550lb 65 LeMans. Sent it back once about 5 years ago to get it loosened up as I upgraded my performance combo. Now stalls at 4400 and the car 60's very consitently in the low 1.4's foot braking. I did run it one full season using a brake but went back to foot braking because I couldn't cut a light with the brake. I couldn't tell you how many 100's of trips this converter has gone down the 1/4 mile. Just my .02.

Ditto for Munsinger. We had him build us an 8" for our D-port 400 back in 95'. In 02' we sent it off for refreshening and loosening( we were putting it with another car/motor combination). When I called him before shipping; and gave him the serial #, he immediately pulled up his records he had taken back then and still had all the specs on it. He had it about 3 weeks and returned it back and it was dead nuts on the money. Against alot of advise; we sprayed this particular combination with 350 HP shot (TH400,3680 lbs 800HP N/A) and the converter was going to 5200 rpm on the brake. Probably wasn't a good idea; but we never did "drive" through the converter. It did was it was supposed to and ran the heck out of the MPH.
Good guy and stays in touch with the customer.

A fresh tranny and an 8" A-1 picked up my car 0.75 seconds!

I tried to order a Munsinger years ago when doing the NMCA racing as alot of the "stockers" used them. 6 months later he was stil too backed up to get one made for me. But heard good things about them.

Glad you got a decent product had good customer service.

Just throwing it out there.

Nothing like sending them a t-400 splined converter for a PG and stated so with the supplied sheet to change the stall. Wait 2 weeks. Get it back with a PG spline fighting for and hour to get it in the tranny. And admit it on the phone after they located the paperwork. Then pay BOTH ways and another 2 WEEKS before getting it back. That a 2 customers and few years ago with Pontiacs and new fubar'd T-400's out of the box.

JW doesn't get my vote.
