Correction, the total mount drop is 3/4". Sorry for the error. Bob

Again, all good info Bob. Looks like the GV unit I picked up has the short adapter like yours. I will have to contact them to get the proper long shaft, th400 adapter. I might find out that the mount locations on the long shaft model are completely different, grrrr. Hopefully it won't push the body of the GV unit back a whole lot further to where it's going to have more problems fitting under the tunnel... Regardless, the more I think about that phase of my project, the more I need to talk to my friend and borrow some space in his garage..... preferably on the hoist

Steve, it may be cheaper to buy a short-tailshaft trans than to buy the longer extension parts. Give them a call.

I will have to call them. I believe I can get away with just buying a new adapter since it's what bolts in place between the GV unit and the tranny. The whole idea of my project was to do the GV OD vs going to a manual with OD because I already spent so much on rebuilding my tranny! Will have to see what happens.

Ok, I called them this afternoon since I was curious about the difference. $650 to swap for the longer adapter Instead of doing this though, they suggested that I look into just swapping the output shaft on my tranny to the shorter one. Does this sound like something that can be accomplished? Seems like it would be a cheaper route.....

Yep, that's what I was trying to say in my other reply, sometimes my words don't come out the way I want since my brain hemorrage. It would think it would be a lot cheaper to have the tranny shop install the shorter shaft. Plus your drive shaft would not be as short; the shorter the drive shaft, the more aggressive the u-joint angle.

Yes, I understand now! I will have to check with the shop that I had rebuild my tranny to see what they'd charge to do this. I'm guessing it can't be something as simple as sliding the shaft out when the tailshaft is off....? Perhaps the entire thing has to be taken apart...?

You 'll need to pull the th400 all the way down to swap output shafts. If it's new it's shouldn't be terribly expensive to do.

Bob, I'll offer my help too. I'm over in Stratford, send me a PM if you want and I'll send you my phone number. I'm thinking of of going the GV OD route myself for my 4 speed.

You gotta get her going for Fox Run's Cruise Night next month. LOL And I'll get yer parking lights set to say on with your headlights too.

I haven't been able to do much because of my neck problem but I did pick up my new driveshaft today. Its 3 inches in diameter and 47-3/8 inches center-to-center, exactly 9" shorter than the stock shaft.

You must use the front yoke (1350) supplied by Gear Vendors, the stock yoke will not slide onto the GV unit's output shaft far enough. The rear is the stock 3R size. Here's a pix of both shafts.

I also installed a shaker hood scoop, but it too will have to wait for my neck to cut me some slack so I can finish it, and the bucket seat installation. Here's a pix of the shaker.

Got your PM. She's looking good Bob. Hope your neck gets feeling better. No fun with that and working on the car too.

Well, my neck/shoulder problem has eased a bit to the point I can do some limited work on my car. I had to start treatments with a Chiropactor to resolve the problem.

Yesterday, I made some brackets and welded them in so I can install a set of 66 GP bucket seats.

Today I welded the orignal trans hump pieces back in the floorboard. I'm going to weld in a 16 ga. doubler on the top and underside of the flooorboards to compensate for the floor brace being removed to accomodate the GV unit. Last week I posted pixs and information about the new driveshaft. Here's a sh!ty pix of today's work.

Hey Pat, yes it's the original peice. Because this is an experimental mod to me, I was very cautious when I cut the original metal out; I removed it in 2 sections. Actually, the truth is that being an old car guy, I've learned to do things very cautiously, because you may just discover that you didn't need to do what you just did and you have to put that SOB back together again. As is the case with me cutting the floor, then finding a way to do this job without having to cut the floor. The great thing is...other guys will know how to get this done without cutting their floor, and that makes me happy.

Bob

That is a really nice looking job. Those brackets you made are especially nice work. You are going to float down the road with that thing. I can not imagine how quiet it is going to be at Hwy. speeds.

I wonder how it is going to be when you kick-down to pass. I want a full report on that part!

Thanks Deadhead, I'm putting 66 GP buckets in it. I bolted the stock outside seat tracks in, then swapped sides with inside tracks so they would mount on a flatter surface. Since there's no upholstry available to the sedan seats, I'm having the upholsteror make up seat patterns similar to the 67 GP style.
