Wonder why so many cars had their side mirrors broke off? Seems strange. Sad to see these damaged cars.

A sad thought struck me today- How many nice clean "lesser" cars will get cut up to provide parts to put some of these high end cars back together?

Went thru on sunday ,most of the heavily damaged cars were gone
1st blue Judge was a clone with homemade interior - no loss, easily fixable 2nd Hagerty Ins was on the spot covering the cars -1 owner reported that hagerty was covering his new purchase even though he had not had time to call them since his other cars were covered with them .Great company. LASTLY Everybody I know has there car insured for way more then it would bring at most auctions after fees etc. If they were that attached to there cars they wouldn't be there. So lets go thru 1 of the cars/ owners i spoke with 77 T/A paid 13,500 with fees, Scuffs on top surfaces and nose piece Body shop estimate to repair / repaint $9,000 Reality- repaint nose ,buff rest of car/ real bill $ 1500.00 Real cost of car $ 6500 / then take it back to BJ in Vegas where it just sold for $34,000 and take the ride/ maybe it brings 20K, still a money maker no matter how you look at it. Yes its sad but no matter how you look at it does it matter whose name is on the check Russo steal,( if the car sold) or your insurance company ,these guys will be paid for there cars I'm over insuring everything I own and taking it to Russo next year, bring the storms/ wind.I'm parking next to the biggest pole I can find. Then I'll buy it back ,fix it for 20% of the insurance check and take it back next year. OOOPPS sorry was I thinking out loud again.Just another crazy body guy looking at all the profit these guys just made. Steve-0 Last edited by ram4 judge; 02-01-2010 at 01:34 AM. |

Tents are made for camping out in, Not protecting cars!!!
Had a friend with one of those heavy car port tents, up a couple years before it snowed heavy one night and down it came. Not the first time I ve seen this. Cars would have been better off out in the weather! Makes you want to cry!! |

BJ's commentators on Sunday, the last day of the auction made a point to indicate how BJ was monitoring the severe incoming weather and with all the storm warnings posted had it's crews come in to reinforce the tents and everything related. They showed video of the crews in manlifts and commented "how one of the other auctions in the area suffered major damage while we did not due to the diligent hard work of the BJ staff."
While I enjoy watching the BJ auction on TV, I'm not a fan of BJ and all its Hollywood circus like atmosphere but their tent did not come down nor did any cars get damaged. Perhaps RS should have done some reinforcing of the tent as well as contract BJ's tent vendor in the future. To have the tops down on those cars was really poor judgement, besides having body damage now the cars interior is water damaged and ruined. That type of violent weather is extremely rare for AZ and no one would have expected that as it never happend before but the RS folks should have been watching the weather and prepared like BJ did. You would think with a such a large event someone would have taken notice.
