I'd rather have new, virgin metal....with low mileage on her.

I completely agree with you on this. This judge could be brought back to life with alot of elbow grease and the right person that know what the hell they are doing.

No way in Hades. I've seen what happens to cars that sit in Florida near the beach out in someone's back yard. They rot through and through. I still have one in my yard with the frame rusted through. Another from Ft Walton Beach had the A pillar rusted thru. We went to push the car and the pillar moved--not the car.

No, it would be dumping her in the gutter and getting some bar floozie and calling her Mrs. Guilty HO.

what about a sd tempest with a complete fake frontend, the original engine and rearend gone? is this one that needs to go away?

this judge is a documented one owner, has all original engine, tranny and rearend. my opinion is this is more of a legit car than the above tempest.

i am not trying to be a arse, but if everyone has this attitude, maybe year one needs to quit making all the rebop parts for the second gen cars? also, one can buy just about every rebop panel for a 1st gen camaro.....

Deserves to be restored. Original drivetrain, unusual color color combination.... properly done this one would get a lot of attention at a show. Probably not another like it.

Just need to make sure when doing the bodywork that at least a little bit of the metal around the VIN plate is preserved, since that's where the car's soul apparently resides.

Theres a lot of missing info here to make a decision on weather or not it should be saved. Based on the exterior, Id say this thing is rusted to the core and there nothing left that can be reused. Granted it was an unusual car at one time, but that time is gone.

Someone with a lot of cash and a lot of metal working knowhow would get this thing. But at $7500 theres nothing here that can bring money if parted to recoup the outlay.

Let this thing go and put it out to pasture.

And even if it was done the PONTIAC PO--LICE would never let someone sell it without getting on here and telling everybody that can read what this car was before it was restored. There for makeing it a hard sell for the poor bum who owned it. Unless it was sold to u for a third of what it would be worth. Another 2 cents in the pot.

Doesn't matter that classic Ferraris are completely rebuilt around a vin on a chassis and sell for millions, or Duesenbergs, Bugatti's etc.. Other than the legality, I don't have a problem with re-bodied/clipped cars and apparently from what I know, some of the country's top Pontiac restorer's/collectors don't either. Knowing what we do now about the minute differences between years - there are a few collectors of very rare Pontiacs out there who should be looking under their car covers!

That being said, I also believe in parting cars and have parted several rare/desirable cars over the years that by today's standards could have easily been restored. Not all of them can be saved and sometimes one must die so that others may live. The only thing keeping this car together are the stickers, if it was a comparably equipped/colored GTO it would have been parted years ago.

ok then, if it needs quarters save it and anything more junk it?

check out the parts available for new cars. one could conceiveably build a complete, running car, less vin and title from a new dealer parts counter.

should old cars be held to a higher standard since used parts are used in many cases?

Cowls were in the old parts books too - no difference between then and now.

That was a "I'll restore it someday, it's not for sale" car.

I'm fickle on the topic of bodies.

--Super rare cars that wouldn't exist without the cowl clip work seem okay for the historic aspect of preserving history. Even if it's worth a fortune after done. Everybody knows the deal on them.

--'tweener cars like Judges being cowl clipped make every other existing car worth less and less special.

--Common cars? I don't care nearly as much, but I'd like to know. I appreciate the Po-leese keeping the pure cars, pure.

Cowls get damaged and they make replacement VIN rivots for a reason.
If I have a common convert GTO basket case with no matching numbers, but intact title and most parts, can I remove my rusted out cowl, restore it, then combine two or more car's parts and make a driver--and still feel okay about the car?

Did anybody see the 70 ram air 4 judge in hpp magazine this month. The artical states that it was the advertising car from 1970. I read the story on this rare car and the owner admits to re-cliping this car. After I read that, I had a different view of the car. He saved it because it was very rare. He has also won awards for this car the add says. So how bad was this car before resto? Was it as bad as the 69 on e-bay?
We may never know.
I am not knocking the guy who own's that 70 at all. Just stating that anything is possible no matter how rusted it is. You might get your pic's in a magazine too.
