I can't say an expert on Charlie Wilson, I was only a child when everything happened. But I am smart enough to ask. The first time I asked was when I was in the 2nd grade when the new kid named Asad showed up at my school. Asad's parents had been killed by the Russian gunships he was 5 and walked himself to the next village that found someone he was related to and shipped him here. I never have stopped asking why? I also have a Sufi friend from Pakistan that can tell you first hand what happened. Well even though I don't have any of the high powered rifles that some on here have, I have 2 .50 Caliber muzzleloaders, a 29 gauge shotgun, a .22 rifle, a Remington New Army .44, a .36 Navy Colt and a .36 Spiller&Burr pistols. I normally have at least one of the pistols strapped on on a regular basis, and never travel without one or two of them with me. I have three boxes of shells for the 28, about four boxes of lead balls for the .44, about three boxes for the .36's, a box of lead balls and several 295 grain hollow points for the .50's and every time I get to Bass Pro I get a can of black powder for the .50's and a can for the pistol's. I fully believe that in these time's like Cliff that there are too many out there that feel if you work for it then they have the right to steal it. Sorry but the Army taught me two things, how they wanted me to work on their trucks and how to defend myself, or as I calmly state to some, how to kill someone if needed. Give up my guns and my right to own them, never.

Life is all about managing risk.

The fuel, ammo, etc. won't help against A-10's or terrorist WMD's. But......they will be very handy in a variety of other situations.....food shortages, civil unrest, roving criminals, etc. So if having those things on hand helps in, say 80% of the potential high-risk situations, it's without question a good thing to have them.

Similar to concealed carry when cornered by an armed criminal. If you and the criminal are both armed, your odds of prevailing might be 50/50....which is way, way better than being unarmed and having 0% chance.

I would like to think that if things ever did get out of hand, that our military would not turn on it's own people regardless of who is in power. On the other hand, if things go south, the direction is pretty much already known (socialism). If that's the case, I can imagine some outside 'peace-keeping force' getting sent in. THAT would be cause for concern. Major concern since it would most likely be those that didn't like the US in the first place.

I remember when there were PILES of those on tables at gun shows for $89-129. AKs were not much more either.

Yup buying more guns every year, just need to start stocking up on ammo. Can't be too prepared to defend your rights.

As far as gold/silver goes, The US dollar keeps dropping as they keep printing money. Where is it going to stop?. A far stretch, but what are you going to buy the necessities of life (Food, water, gas, power) with if the dollar colapses? Might be a good idea to have some gold or silver under the mattress just in case.

Another reason to own a gun or 2 as there will be even more people trying to take from you if they cannot afford to eat!

Well when it comes down to it my fiancee and I can load up what we need get on the horses and head for the mountains. With her being Native American living off the land is something her people have done for years. So with the guns I have we can live better than most if needed and be hard to find. And all I'll need to do is go to the tire shops and get their old weights and I can mold my own ammunition and keep several cans of powder in the dry. We could make it for quite awhile.

I've been doing a lot of reading, and it sure does appear like there is a concerted effort to crash the US dollar as the world's default currency.
As soon as countries stop trading in US dollars for commodities, thats when there'll be rampant inflation in the US.....just ask the Germans after WW1, or ask the Zimbabweans now...their dollar is pretty well not worth the paper and ink it costs to print.

yep Piles of nice cosmoline covered SKS's. The Ak's were still kinda expensive but Maadi AK's pretty cheap. Only gun I wish I never got rid of was the Mini-14. But I needed racing parts, and the guns just wasn't being used. Sold my mossburg 12, my sks, the mini -14, the thompsons 45-70, the astra a100 .40, gave dad a few a .22 mag davis arms "derringer" and something else. I had I few guns got rid of all but a Llama .45 full frame made in 71 that was my gramps and a sporter 7.62x51 1966 Enfiled ishapore that would make a mighty fine deer rifle if it comes down to needing to hunt for my food.

I bought 3 new Chinese SKS Paratrooper rifles quite a few years ago for $106 each. I still own one of them, it is in mint condition. Wished I would have bought a couple of cases of them, and all the armor piercing 7.62 x 39 ammo I could have carried!

The banned the importation of that ammo many years ago, and it's illegal to sell it as well. Almost all of the early Russian ammo was AP, but not too many folks know this.....Cliff

The owner of CTD has a ton of it, two car garage the back wall was stacked to the roof two or three cases deep, We had a problem with Ft worth fire chief around the y2k era and I moved more ammo in a day than most would ever touch in a lifetime. I begged him to sell me a case or two he said he couldn't because of the ban he just had to sit on it. I said then don't sell it just give me some, he still wouldn't, Oh well. We still got checked with a magnet every time we walking into the range until I quit going back in 2004 or 2005.
