I sold them for years on appliances and electronics. It's the #1 profit maker for the retailer, period.
I only buy them on items that get handled a lot. Camcorders, handheld game boy type systems, etc. In 08 I bought a 60" Mitsubishi DLP TV, after the factory warranty went out the white dots started popping up all over it. I bought it from Circuit City, out of business, and Mitsubishi wouldn't warranty it without a receipt (thermal paper had turned white) even though it was a well known issue that they were covering. I bought a new 73" from H H Gregg this year and negotiated the price of the warranty to about half what they are asking. |
