And driving at night out there is quite the experience too. Never seen so much wildlife out on the roads at night as the time I drove out to Lubbock with a friend to pick up an LS6 crate motor @ Scoggins & Dickey. You name it,and I damned near ran it over. Chupacabra,,,look out!!! ![]() LOL Bret P. |

I had heard that you can't drive across Texas in a day.
I did. Spent a night in Oklahoma and the next in New Mexico. |

Well, looks like no trip to Texas this year. We were planning on heading down the weekend before Thanksgiving but I just priced the flights. Chicago to Galveston is about $500 per person!! I had no idea in the world that air fare would be that high.
Change in direction. Looks like a road trip some where closer. Texas will have to wait until next year. Thanks for all the input people. |

LOL Actually any place Texan. It's all a pretty state. Go to El Paso and out the the War Eagles Air Museum at the airport on the Mexican border. That place is something to see. And get me another hat in red! LOL Yeah, I live in Delaware and was a member of their museum. Got to re up my 15.00 dues for next year too.

Too bad you are going to have your daughter... If you went to Austin, a must see is Esters Follies. The FUNNIEST improv comedy I have ever seen in my life. The back of the stage is a giant window to the sidewalk outside, it creates a unique show. Not kid friendly.

We'll do. Thanks Alvin.
Switch it up again. Looks like Tampa is the pace for us. Airfare, hotel and car rental is almost half the price of going into TX. Found a really nice hotel on the white beaches near Clearwater. Its only four full days but I cant wait. Gonna surprise my daughter with Bush Gardens. Thanks for all the help everyone. Ill refer to this thread next year when we head to TX. |

Born and raised in SE Texas and have lived there, Dallas, and San Antonio and traveled the whole state. I would agree with those who are recommending the Austin/San Antonio/Hill Country (ie Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Boerne, etc. areas) areas. This will make the Galveston people mad but IMHO Corpus Christi is a much nicer site on the Gulf of Mexico although Galveston does have it's charms.

If it were just adults, Austin would be the way to go. With children, San Antonio and Galveston are far better....

I discovered that Austin was a hotbed for alternative music. Who knew? Apparently everybody except me. I went down with some friends and had a fantastic time. Great people. A ton of culture. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

heading to Austin for the F-1 race........I have Ferrari paddock/pit passes for the event.
My plan is to fly in on Wednesday & rent an RV take in some local sights & camp around. I have a few spots I want to see for sure....Hamilton Nature Reserve, a couple place for food....Magnolia Cafe, Casino El Camino & 6th street to party. What else should I have on the list, or take off? Have to stay close enough to be at the track in the early AM everyday! Any Pontiac Ranches that would like a visitor......Dave K. |
