I have to build a barn.

Well the holes are dug and the lumber is here, we'll see how much I can get done this week - roof trusses are coming next Wednesday.

I need to finish the room addition, but a bigger emergency came up,
as I need to move my best 68 Bird to other garage or conex along with all the parts,
and make room for one of my sons and family.
The house they have been renting went up for sale rather suddenly.
As far as lists,my wife gave up on that concept years ago.

Oh ya, theres old wiring up there and vent running across/ovr from when the sink was moved to other wall.
And ceiling light fixture where door to outside was.
So may remove small chandeliar light over table, and install recessed lights.
Needless to say wife not happy...
That sounds like a recipe for an unhappy wife, good luck man, sounds tough

This weekend the new fireplace in the family room should be completed. Need to install the LED strip lighting in the granite mantle and the maple shelves. Also wire in the art lights for my two new "art" drawings - a group of GTO's around "Champion Pontiac" and a group of 2nd gen Camaro's around "Champ's Speed Shop"....

brave man, I am scared by plumbing and tile work.
You get used to the abuse, but my knees may never forgive, me. When I tiled my kitchen floor I lost 10 lbs. Sweating copper pipes is no problem, but running PVC drain and vent lines to meet code and getting the slope right sucks. Now I know why tile setters and plumbers get paid well.

Tempting since it is becoming popular. Not sure how to keep it to code and hide all the wiring. Fill us in how you did it.

Everything is code. Granite mantle was fabricated with an opening for the LED strip lighting and so were the maple shelves.

If you look closely - you can see the wire coming out of the bottom of the right hand side of the mantle (mantle is hollow) and also see 3 of the 4 shelf wires (shelves also hollow).

Power supply for the LED lighting is mounted behind the right channel speaker, so is fully accessible for wiring by removing 4 screws.

There are also lights inside the firebox.

Son-in-law is an electrician - he won't wire anything if it's not done right...

Will post photos of completed project after the weekend.

Of all things, plumbing by far is the easiest.
Next is electrical.
I hate drywall.

To add to what The Champ said, there are many kits out there with plug-in wiring for the LEDs. Since they are relatively new and popular, they aren't cheap, however.

I did under cabinet LEDs last year in my kitchen re-do. IIRC it was about $450 for what I did. The kits that I used, you can daisey chain the plug-in wiring from one to the next. (I got them from Lowes, IIRC) The beauty about LEDs are: Low voltage, low heat, and they last a very long time.

I just wish the prices for the LED can lights would come down, I have a basement to finish.

yea I always tell my wife, "dont touch any of this"

she proceeds to "organize" those things, and if I didnt know her so well, I would swear she was just messing with me.

I mean just put everything in a drawer I understand, but this over here, and that over there... its ridiculous

I just put radiant floor heat in the bath for my wifes cold feet. It only took two years, I had the zone and piping there when I put the boiler in, I just needed to put the pex in the subfloor. Anything heating and ac takes me a while since I do it for a living. Now she wants it in the whole house, I told her 10 more years.

You're right, they aren't cheap. But I have the advantage that my daughter is a lighting consultant - and I buy them at her employee price... And Eric, as I stated earlier is an electrician, so I buy more economically and I get a free install...

That's how my daughter and Eric met - he was installing big lighting jobs that she sold - both commercial and residential.

I get to tear out a perfectly good vented gas log fireplace and replace it with a non-vented one. I was lucky enough to get a new roof recently due to hail damage and decided to take the wood chimney surround down so I won't have to climb up on a 9/12 pitch roof to maintain it. I also lucked out on a floor demo gas fireplace for a fraction of the cost of a new unit.
Now, I have to remove the brick hearth and fireplace surround, take the old unit out, install the new one, frame up for a granite or marble hearth and surround and finally build a new mantle.
Shouldn't take more than a few hours!
Oh yeah, anybody interested in a vented gas fireplace?

I've got a list hanging on the fridge but the darn thing makes me look Bi-Polar.

Lots of projects started but only a few actually completed.
