We made 750hp 2 6300rpm with ours and the only big difference is we have about 3.5 pts more compression, doubt that is worth 150hp. Keep working with the intake and carbs there is more there. |

You might want to try taller spacers. The other thing is if you ever change the cam you might want to think about a tighter l/s (although your trans might like the wider l/s not sure about that), we have always ran a 106 to 108 l/s in ours.

Good to know, I wish we could of tried the other cam, would of been a good test. I will get some larger spacers for the next test!

Rich, Do U have the cam card or the specs on your cam u are running now? Curious how it compares as far as the road paver I run in size, far as overlap etc, also what is the difference in flow from say your 340 Eldy head to a SD KRE 310 head? Does the Eldy flow 30 cfm more or is it the same cause of the design of each?

Here is some info on the cam and charts, the dotted line at the peak HP is 6000RPM. I think if we had some Header evacs on the 2" it would of made at least 10 HP more.

"I was surprised that the tripower wasn't higher....damit, 50 HP is alot to give up....might have to fabricate a tripower intake."
I'd be interested to see how much quicker the single plane intake runs at the track. Might not run all that much quicker, as dyno runs are only a snap-shot of the power curve. At the track the engine doesn't leave and stay in the upper rpm range where the better flowing intakes make more power. If it's only couple of tenths, I'd stick with the tri-power. As far as headers go, we've seen 42hp difference from one brand to another on an engine making about the same power as yours. That's nearly the difference you saw in the intake manifolds. Same deal with spacers, not uncommon to see quite a bit of power lost if one isn't used with a single plane intake.....Cliff

Very interesting comments Cliff. I actually tried this manifold at the the track, with a different 1" spacer and a different carb, and the car was down a couple of mph and didn't ET as good. Now that was with a hydraulic roller cam and solid lifters.
Easy to get sucked into racing dyno's, but 11.17 @ 122 with the tripower still impressed me! Thanks

What work was done on the 66 Tri-Power?

Carbs have been modified (top section the piece that protrudes in to air horn was removed, and the throat was touched up a bit)
Intake is aluminum and was welded up to it had room for the taller ports, and the runners were all worked as material was added using JB weld. Where the two end carbs are mounted in the intake, the seperation between the two carbs was removed..... Did you have some more ideas Tom?

Cliff-
I picked up 12/12 at the 450 hp level with a 1" spacer on an RPM. |

Like the stock spread bore intakes, you eventually hit a brick wall with them, but they will run. Jay Delaigle is in the 10's with a POS EGR version, and Rick Mahoney is just about in the 9's, and they do it with bias ply tires!......Cliff
