I'm trying to thin out my personal stash - and between the two cars, I'm sure I could use it.

Here's the deal why the price is so low now; LKQ, goodmarks newest and present owner, lowered the price drastically to stimulate sales which obviously helped a lot. I personally think this a raw deal as it screwed the stocking dealers (including me) and the early buyers who paid a premium for the inital supply. Any dealer with a supply of these parts will now lose their butt even to match price. This is a big company which apparently does not care about it's dealers because now they cannot compete with the new players paying the new wholesale price of around $100.00. If LKQ can sell this piece at this price, you have to wonder how much money they are really making.
BTW, the new MSRP on the t/p is $159.00, so 181.00 is still significantly above the new price structure. Obviously with the number of sales that have taken place, it has been a tremendous windfall. They did the same thing with the trunk extensions. Don't even think that the sellers marketing these parts are all of a sudden bestowing a gift on the community; they are simply reaping the vast rewards of the new price structure. By continuing to increase the price any further is simple greed given the new lower price. I had EVERYTHING to do with having these parts being made and fitted them myself. I felt I was doing a tremendous favor for all owners needing this product and I know I succeded in that respect. This was supposed to be an opportunity for goodmark to make some new products with a good profit with the idea to stimulate them to make more. I had goodmark convinced that there was a good market for these items and while many willing buyers took advantage when they were released, actual sales fell far short of projections. Consequently, due to the slow sales of the t/p and extensions (after many whined for years about the lack of a good product) it is unlikely that any other future products will be made by goodmark for these cars IMO. Just my 2 cents. Last edited by sd7369; 04-10-2013 at 11:53 PM. |

I didn't even know these were being made; at the $300 price I still would have (eventually) bought - it sure kicks the crap out of the lower panel paper template i got several years back!! what's this about trunk extentions?

sd7369- I remember...
I was one of the guys who said that I would buy one if someone made them happen. I kept my word and paid over $400, as soon as they hit the market. I didn't really even need one at the time. I still have it in the box. thanks for your efforts in getting them done, its a really nice part- Will |

SD73 that is crap how they did you like that. More and more it seems like the little guy gets beaten up by humongous companies like LKQ. I appreciate your effort in getting the parts to market. I followed all your threads on both the tail panel and the trunk drop offs. i read those threads a hundred times and learned a ton of stuff from your effort and all the other guys that contributed. i wasn't planning on even buying a tail panel but couldn't resist for the price.
After ordering it from Summit i called goodmark and they told me that the price dropped because they just recouped their original tooling costs and that it was their policy to reduce the price of new introduction parts after the initial costs are recouped. It never occurred to me that guys like you get screwed on that deal. it makes it harder for somebody to go through the effort to help the company do their r&d knowing they going to overcharge you and all the customer you send them to get the project off the ground. On a different note Goodmark said they should have full quarters available for the 70-73 within the year. I'm hoping that the surge in tail panel sales will convince them to fast track the quarter panels. But i'm torn because i don't want to be the first guy to buy one knowing that they'll be dropping the price if a wait a little longer. they're screwing themselves because it makes potential customers take a wait and see approach before ordering the new peices. They should do an introductory offer for the first couple hundred orders so the first guys don't feel screwed or get a bad taste for the company when they sell them cheaper later.

I bought one for 399 a few years back and I was happy to spend it. I just bought one for 171 shipped and will probable buy a few more in the next few years. I hope they still do the quarters. Ill be happy to pay them 600 a piece to get the first ones I could see why they are dropping the price of the Tail panels. If they have recouped there costs there should be no reason why a 70 camaro one is 80 and the firebird one is 399. Yes it sucks for the dealers that have stock at the higher prices. BTW if anyone wants a NOS one there is one on ebay

That happens with almost all products when they first come out. Those who have to have them now will pay the price. Those who can wait will get a better deal.

The trunk extensions are a perfect fit. Nice job on them. The only thing I would double check on is this: When I bought mine from Goodmark they were mislabeled from the factory - the one labeled as the left side was actually the right and the right was actually left. Didn't matter to me, since I needed a pair but if you only need one side make sure they double check which side you are getting.

Sorry you got ****ed in this deal Ron - Like they say, no good deed goes un-punished.
What would be required to get something like this done on your own?

Maybe, they have some over there. Things are so different with goodmark now. I think that after this deal most buyers will be gun shy about buying right away at initial price. Dealers will buy to have them "first" as they will move a few quickly. My liason with goodmark has sort of lost some enthusiasm for these projects due to his hands being tied with pricing and LKQ management policies in general. Time will tell.
