There is another Red RA I Convertible with a 4.33 here in my town ...... only it is an automatic. It was been discussed on here a few months ago when it was on Ebay.

The difference in rarity between a I and II vert might be small regardless of color....I bet resto cost between the I and II vert are close too. But, the ROI goes to the II hands down.

I bought it from a guy that had it 1.5 years. He bought it from a man that had it since 1975. The title I got was from Delaware and dated 8/75 with the prior owner's name. Virginia DMV looked at it a few times before they gave me a Virginia title in my name.

Anyway, no extra parts. A motor a trans was taken out by 1975 owner and never put back in. Lost or stolen, I think. It's been off the road since August, 1979. I've got the Delaware tag.

Any Baltimore RA1 XS blocks or #31 heads out there (November-January date)? Car is February, first week production.

Just in case someone has seen one.

date codes dont work that way for a Ram I...they did them in small batches, not like a normally ran motor series that date codes to the car with in a month or so...and those batch dates are known...easier to get than you think, i bet Chris has one or knows where one is....

also, for some reason Baltimore built cars seem to sometimes have several month lead time on the engines compared to the build date. anyone know why this was????

The 68 Ram1 cars are more wicked than the 69-70 Ram3 cars . imo

You couldn't get a Ram1 with a 3spd stick, 3 core radiator, single trac rear, 3.55 gears
- but you could in a 69 or 70 Ram3 . fwiw

So we had this thread a few weeks back where all the experts beotch-slapped the hell outta me for suggesting that one should get a PHS if one wants to buy a GTO/Pontiac car. Of course the experts basically agreed that there was no need if it was already a "242" GTO since one would be able to find anything that they could not already tell from looking at the car. Very few people agreed with me.

So there you have it, PHS is actually worth something, sometimes, to someone! Wow.

If you buy a 68 GTO Automatic with a numbers/VIN matching YS engine from the original owner who still has the window sticker - PHS might not be too necessary.

68 with no engine or tranny .... PHS is your momma and daddy.
Especially if its sitting on a 4.33 rear

Any expert or advanced enthusiast knows where the lines are .... you mighta got Bslapped for not seeing the line in the sand ?

The seller told me it had 3.55's in it. So that lead people astray. Simple rule of thumb, which I'll forget it again...start at square 1. It was for sale for a week but because it was advertised in such a manner, there wasn't much interest.

My engine unit number is also 000000

Nice find but once you start restoring a car it is always worse than you think. This car is so rusty what is going left of it once the rust is cut out? I know about anything can be restored but with the drivetrain missing and it needing almost every piece of sheet metal replaced including the cowl what is the cut off point between scrap yard and restoration?

You're from Illinois and know what rust is. This car is far from being Swiss cheese.

Jim @ PHS told me that in 20 years at PHS, he's only accounted for 9 RA1 convertibles. That includes manual and automatic transmission cars. It's likely there are more out there but the other guys her say that's about the correct amount.

With numbers that low, you bring this one back obviously. Do as much work yourself, don't pay out the nose for everything and take your time...seems to be the consensus.
