June trans in a November car. I know originality is not the case here, but I wouldn't be concerned as long as the VIN matches up. Stuff gets mixed up, delayed, pulled from the back shelf, etc.

In this case, the body was finished 11D (22nd-28th) and Thanksgiving being the 22nd mostly leaves the 26th-28th for the body. It shipped on the 12th of Dec., meaning it sat for 2 weeks before shipping. With the trans. date being so far off, I would conclude that it was the reason. I would bet that with an original engine, all dates would have matched early Nov. dates, except for maybe the distributor.

Great timing on this thread as I am just pulling my 455 & Muncie for a few upgrades. After a KRE head upgrade, my engine will be in the 460hp range with somewhere around 500-520 TQ. I just upgraded my Muncie last year with a 1" shaft and 2.52 input gear, and run it with a 3.31 chevy 12-bolt with stock diff. It survived a couple trips to the track last summer on street tires.
Since I keep wanting to add more power (imagine that...), I am inclined to upgrade the trans with a new Auto Gear case and iron midplate. Really wishing I did this in the first place when replacing the standard case with a 1" shaft bore! But, I should be able to sell the standard case to offset the cost a little. With that said, and after researching this topic, it seems that the Muncie should hold up reasonably well IF I am not side-stepping the clutch with slicks, or beating the p**s out of it by power shifting, etc. Fair assumption? Should anything else be done to the Muncie besides the case & midplate, or are these the primary "power upgrades" for the trans? Thanks. |
