Appreciate all of the thoughtful comments. Lobo had an unexpected and bad seizure Sunday morning at 12:15am. I held and comforted him and I got him through it without injury. It took approximately 15 minutes for him to regain his composure and when I got his collars out to take him to the Emergency Vet Hospital, he did his usual jumping and whining as he knew he was going to go for a ride in daddy's truck.

He checked out fine at the hospital but the doctor/vet did say that he had a slight heart murmur. Lobo was 100% healthy dog his entire life with no issues which is why this was so unexpected. Up to this point he had never shown any signs of failing health or had ever needed any special care. He had the best foods, shots, prevention meds and was at a perfectly maintained weight for a dog his size. Got him checked out and took him home at 2am. They said just to watch him that he could be fine.

When I woke at 6:30 am he was dead.

At least he passed at home with us laying on his favorite dog bed.

He would have been 9 years old on March 5th. Way too early for this beautiful animal.

Terribly crushing to lose such a great dog so early. I'll never be able to replace him.

Lobo getting one last nap in the old recliner he grew up in.

Marc so sorry to hear about Lobo. I also lost Shadow who was a chocolate lab a year ago Christmas. He actually came with the house we bought 9 years ago and was the best dog I ever had. Shadow was the epitome of selflessness. I have never seen a more caring dog and I have own quite a few and many different breeds. We found out that Shadow had cancer and had been told by the vet for the past two years that he was getting up in age (we think he was about 9) and that Labs have hip problems. After about 3 weeks of me picking him up to take him outside to use the restroom, he finally would not be able to stand at all. We took him to another vet and that's when we found out his whole body was riddled with cancer. He never complained a bit even when he must have been is very bad pain. According to the vet his cancer must have been present for years, we didn't know till it was to late. Even when I left the vet, as I couldn't be there when he was put to sleep, he was happy and befriending all of the folks in the office. My wife stayed with him till the end. We now have Maggie she is a white Lab, she is the total opposite of Shadow (greedy, as it's all about Maggie, she even goes nuts when ever we pet other dogs) she is also very much like him. Maggie has been a God send to me (she is curdled up on the wife's side of the bed as I am typing). I don't know what it is about a Lab, but I am pretty sure I will always have one with me as long as I live. As you stated so graciously in your post, they are pricless and can never be replaced. I truley believe they are gifts from God to people who deserve what they have to offer. When time comes, seek out another Lab to comfort you and share the kindness to others you have to give. They say that dogs take on the characteristics of their owners, it sounds to me that you must be just like Lobo. Sorry to rant on, I was just touched by your post of your special friend.

Lobo wanted to be with his family to spend his last hours. That was a dedicated dog for sure. Sad, just sad. Again sorry for your loss.

Mark, sorry for your loss. Completely understand that bond. I had a dog named Lobo so it brought back some bittersweet memories. My dog, Reagan, goes to work with me every day and sleeps next to my desk. We could not be bigger buddies. She goes everywhere with me and simply adores me. Get another dog man. Life is better with a dog in your life!
