Wrong part number and date code. What he says is 6M1 is actually GM 1. If you need one I have one. Can take pics tomorrow morning.

I got my info from here:
http://www.pontiacparadise.com/parts...ellhousing.php
538090 is what they list for a 61-62 big car, is this not correct? Appears to have the bellhousing mounted starter and angled 15 deg.
(looks like march 16, 1962 is the code.)

What kinds of 4-speed stuff do you have available for 61-62?

Sounds like I will have to pay dearly for a clutch fork!

Got my eyeballs on this: http://fabcraftmetalworks.com/cgi/co...n&key=CL4-0200

Seller simply stated the bell was for a 66 year car.

Would still be interested to know if anybody has any parts to help me with the swap!

If you are not really stuck on originality, you should consider putting a 389 or 400 from '65 and up in it. A 400 especially would save you a TON of $ and hassle. If you did not do that, the next simpler way to go is to do a factory T-10. Yes, this is not the toughest trans on the planet, but it is far easier to mate up than jumping through all the hoops with the other options. Just something to consider before you get too far in.

Not totally stuck on it, but if the motor turns out to be the original AND has truly only 41,000 miles on it (assuming everything checks out OK) I'd rather just freshen it up with new gaskets than spend a bunch on machine work. I know, I should have just waited to get it but sometimes excitement overcomes us!

Are those T-10s hard to find? I'm not going to make this into a race car, it will probably be all stock except for the 3x2. I would prefer to get one I can rebuild myself.

T-10s aren't hard to find, just not cheap. Remind me, is this a stick or automatic car?

Also, if you stay with the '62 engine, there are transmission adapter plates out there that allow you to run a TH400 tranny.

Great buy, by the way.

It is an auto car. Turbo 400 or even 350 sounds like a good option too but after reading about adapters and tunnel hammering the 4-spd seemed like a fun upgrade. (I can rebuild a 4-spd on my own, I don't know what the inside of an auto even looks like.)

Any reason I couldn't just use a Muncie? In order to avoid buying all the expensive linkage I'll look at what it takes to run a hydraulic setup.

I found this hydraulic conversion thread in the 61-older forum, and this really seems like the way to go. That 61-62 linkage looks clunky anyway and it is $$$... (clutch fork by itself is $245.)

hydraulic TOB is about $360 and the MC is $50. I've got a buddy who has some serious fab skills... I can weld in sheetmetal but that is the extent of my welding experience.

I got the PHS docs back but they said the microfiche was in poor shape. There was no mention of power steering or brakes or posi. The colors checked out but I could have gotten that from the tag. Black/red int/white top. Car is a native Oregonian sold new in Bend which is high desert country. The dealership is still in business and the parts guy I found (also in bend) is good friends with the owner (now retired). I hope it has the "pacific wonderland" plates.
