I agree with Biltit- BFG radial T/As are greasy tires and offer little dry traction. In addition to being overpriced they're also horrible in the wet- I had a set of 235/60's on my 74 T/A, hydroplaned on the freeway and did a 720 during a rainstorm.
You might not like it, but Cooper cobras will offer much better dry and wet traction in a 15" radial tire. Geno |

Hmm, I'm somewhat open minded to new tires. I do like the looks and BFG's and for most driving they're fine. But I will say, I can't keep them from spinning when I get on it. But on the other hand, that's fun ;-)
I'm struggling with with the stance right now. I do not like how much rake I have now and I don't want to go taller up front. Only drag radials come in 275/50's so now I'm considering 255/60's.

Maybe rear wheels with different offset?

Unfortunately that's not an option. I only want to use Cragar SS rims and they only come in this BS for 15x8.
I will put my other rims back on with the 275/50s and take some pics in the same parking lot and post.

I don't doubt that 'radial' T/A's might not give the best traction. Are BFG 'comp' T/A's still available? They had better specs for traction.

Part of the problem with raised white letter tires is that the letters should probably match, no? LOL.
I'll post pics again of the other size and then see what you all think.

My only complaint with BFG TA's are that after 6-7 years they seem to grow baseball sized knots on either the sidewall or the tread. Luckily it's always happened to me while sitting in the garage. They are passed their expected life span anyway, and the BFG TA's are cheap to buy when you compare other brands, so it's not really a complaint, just something I've noticed.
Nice thing about the BFG TA's are that they still offer the oddball and hard to find sizes, with still a fair selection even in the 14's while other brands have eliminated alot of sizes from the lineup. That's one reason you see them used alot. Another is the appearance, they are a good looking tread design. As far as traction, I've never noticed any ill handling characteristics, and I haven't noticed that they spin on dry pavement anymore than most other rock hard street radials I've used. If it's straight line traction you are most concerned with, then you likely either need a drag radial, or your suspension needs some tweaking with pinion angle, instant center changes, and some adjustable shocks. If we can make little F70-14 bias plys run 1.8 60 foot times years ago (they are even quicker now in the pure stock class) with minor suspension tweaks, then there shouldn't be much of a problem with a big 275-60/15's on the street. As far as wet roads, we don't see that often here in AZ but on the occasion where I've been caught, driving at reasonable speeds hasn't produced any strange handling. As far as cornerning, we have alot of fun mountain terrain around here with switchbacks. The car does fine but if I were really interested in "getting after it" on the twisties I'd likely choose a completely different wheel with less sidewall and a different suspension setup. I think for most situations, and most people using their cars in a somewhat normal fassion, the BFG TA's get the job done. That doesn't mean I won't try other tires if the size is offered in what I'm looking for. I've run and currently have in the stable, Kuhmo's, BFG TA's. Mickey Thompson drag radials and Baja Claws, Michelin, Uniroryal, BFG Comp TA's, Firestone, and Goodyear reproduction F70-14 bias ply's. By far my favorite tire are the Michelins. Unfortunately they are limited in their tire size offerings, mainly catering to the new car market. |

I have 2 sets of BFG TA's on my cars and they are at least 8-9 years old and have not developed any "knots". Still using them. They do last a long time. Can't say I'm that impressed by the tread, but the sidewall appearance and lettering look good and have stayed white, with the help of some Wesley's Blechewite.
Wish Firestone still made the 15" Firehawks. They were the best 15" RWL tire I've ever had. Much better handling than the BFG's and Uniroyals I've had. Didn't particularly like the "Indy 500" lettering on them, but still would buy it for its better construction and tread.

I remember the 15" Firehawks from Firestone. Oddly enough, I run Firestone 10 ply tires for my old truck with the odd size 16.5" rims. Kind of funny they killed the 15" line but still produce the 16.5's, but I understand why. 16.5's are still hot sellers for motor homes and other large equipment around here.

I've never had problems with BFG's. I run them on my Jeeps (BFG A/T) - on my 3rd set. I tend to get 50k miles out of them. I use them for the street and use a M/T tire for the trails.
For the muscle cars, I like the looks (both the treads and the letters) of the BFG T/A. I just wish they made a 275/50.

Yep I've used the BFG AT's on my blazer and off roaded it quite a bit in the mountains. Daily drove those tires as well and got a solid 40,000 miles out of them with life left. Not a bad tire for off road (slippery in some conditions) Nice "street" tire and complimented the looks of the blazer, but honestly I prefer something more puncture resistant when I'm in the middle of no where. I run Mickey Thompson Baja Claws (31x13.5"x15) on my sand rail and pound this thing off road, and they are going on 30 years old now, they wear like steel and never a flat even with sidewall gouges in them

Anyone remember the old Dunlop qualifiers, they had a good compound in those tires and hooked pretty good for a plain radial tire. They did not work to good in the rain and snow but pretty good on dry pavement.

Yep, remember those. Kind of an aggressive looking tread on them. Good looking tire.

ok, I finally had a chance to swap tires and take some pics. I will say this, I LOVE the way the car drives on the 26" tires. Love the stance more. I just wish I could get a 275/50 BFG RWL tire for looks. What do you all think about these pics? What do you think about leaving RWL on the front and mounting my drag radials on the Cragar S/S rims?

Did you have Diamondback in North Carolina convert those to sneaky white letters for ya?
They do great work. |

Stick-on letters? I know there's a company that makes white letters for situations like that. Looks good.
