This was about 8 years ago, but here's the last trout I caught. We released it of course. Caught some huge Northern Pike on that trip as well. What a great trip that was.

Been a while since I caught those.
We have the hybrids in fresh water that are just as feisty

Not much in the way of really good trout streams around here. There are a couple but the big draw to fishing in rivers around here is salmon and steelhead. I just never really got into it.

OTOH, I'm a huge fan of our high lakes fisheries. Only possible in the summer months but there are some lakes that hold really nice fish and the hikes in are often really fun. For the most part the fish aren't very big, but if your only definition of success is how big the fish is, you might be missing the point.

Here's some nice pan-sized cutts I hauled out of Four Point lake in the Pasayten Wilderness last summer. About 16 miles from the nearest road.

Here's some pics from a "sekrit" lake me and some buds discovered about 4 years ago. I've been wanting to get back there and hope this is the year. It had been planted two years before with triploid cutthroat which should be absolute monsters by now. They were only about 6-8" then so we threw them all back but kept some of the larger cutts for a good fish-fry. This lake is about a 5 mile hike but involves a little over 4000 ft of elevation gain and doesn't have an official trail to it which keeps out the riff-raff.

I always liked ice fishing. Never caught any trout only pickerel, bass, and yellow perch.

Thanks 68azbird - that area is right on the edge of North Cascades National Park. Lots of great mountain scenery and thousands of high lakes around here.

I sure would like to get down to AZ and fish some of those rivers as well as explore the canyons & such. It'd be a nice change of pace.

Caught a few more today. Hands were freezing up after an hour so I packed it in. Some snow in the mountains.

Very nice!!!

Went bass fishing this morning. 35 degrees at the pond I fish. Caught two over 3 lbs and about a dozen smaller ones. Had one REALLY nice one hooked , but you know the rest of the story.

Love fishing in cool weather. Had the whole place to myself.

The pond I fish is in a really nice upper class neighborhood, but nobody hardly fishes it. Plenty of 3-4 lb. Bass and some nice catfish also.

I'm afraid we don't get to do much trout fishing locally. They are a blast to catch though!

Both my paternal and maternal grandfathers were fly fishermen. Not too many trout in S. Indiana or N. KY. but they tell me both bluegill and crappie are fun to catch on a fly rod. I just might have to develop the patience to set my spinning rig aside to learn the ways of the fly.
