It was in the low 70s here today (San Diego). I debated flip flops vs. shoes.

I hate saying this, but I think have you all beat. It was mild here till Christmas, ~ 0 to -10C (32-17 F) then it got cold -25 to -30C(-27F or so) these are daytime highs, over night we hit close to -40 a couple of times. My truck(Duramax) was sitting for a week and I was worried it wasn't going to start. Today it warmed up to -19C around noon, so I just went out and lit her up for 15mins.
Hope that helps you all feel better about your current locations weather.

The summer weather here is brutal but our winters are very pleasant. Other parts of the country have beautiful summers but freezing winters. Too bad we all can't have sunny skies and 70 degree temps year round....think of how much progress we all could make on our project cars if that were the case.

Didn't get above zero here all day ... even with a bright sun shining. Forecast is minus 13 F tonight.

I live near Raleigh NC. I'm not sure what the high today was, but when I went out around 2PM it was only 28F. I think it was in the low 20s this morning when I took the dog out to pee. We have a boxer, she didn't wait long to squat and turn around and head for heat.
I got an email from a buddy I went to high school with. He lives in Plant City, FL. He said it was sunny and 80F, he was running the a/c. Mike |

Do you know what that does to your electric meter?
I found out the hard way. The wife was pissed. I told her it must have been the Christmas lights. LOL |

300 Watts, like lighting 4, 75 watt bulbs. It's much cheaper/easier than buying a starter and installing it in 0 degree weather in the driveway, been there done that.
I don't plug mine in til it gets down below 15, it'll start on the glowplugs without extra heat in the block. I also usually plug it in 2-3 hours before I'm going to start it, don't usually leave it plugged in all night long like some people do. I also switched to 5/40 Synthetic Rotella this year so it's not so hard to start. Every little bit helps. |

yesterday was cold..this morning was 1 degree...and guess what? my truck was dragging on the start, but it did start...but i killed the battery in my truck.... stranded me for the first time...and lordy what a bad feeling..went to a gas station, turned it off, filled up and just made 1 click...dang, did it make my heart jump to my throat....
got a jump, thank goodness some good samaritan jumped my truck, he drove off smiling before i could pay him...lol... went straight to the parts house, and the guy there demanded, that HE changed it..and wouldnt take a tip, i had to force him to take a $20...as i stood inside the store and watched him where it was 75 or so.........and bought a little jump box from schumacher while waiting around... i used one of these a month ago to look at a LS1..the battery was completely dead in a camaro...connected this, waited a minute and couldnt believe it started the car..couldnt believe it....so..now i own it..lol...will not work if theres no battery in the car..must have a battery, even if its dead.. http://www.batterychargers.com/sl1316/ i went out checked it all out before the hood went down, guy did a great job.......no probs..started it up and off i went... i remember batterys lasting 10 years....this barely made 3..and WTF when did they go from $60 to $70 to $125 for the cheapest turd they sell???

I've replaced the glow plug relay (comptroller) with a ford starter relay on my 6.5 TD with a push button in the cab. I can hold the glow plugs on as long as I need to. I have Bosch self regulating glowplugs so if you leave it on a little longer than the comptroller would, they don't burn out. Starter relay is a lot cheaper than new comptrollers are and the contacts are much larger so they don't burn up quickly and have less resistance. The relay will probably outlast the truck..........

The HD battery in my 2011 GMC lasted three years. The OEM battery in my 2002 Sierra last 9 year without a hitch. I can't make sense of it.

2* again here this morning when I let the dogs out.
Our Lab Max is closer to 14 than he is to 13 now and the last two mornings I've had to go out with him and carry him back to the house. The pads on his feet start to hurt and he just lays down out there in the woods - bad news when it's this cold, wouldn't take long!

The news channels here certainly are getting their money’s worth out of this story. Must be a slow news day. Seriously, this is Canada. What were they expecting? When I lived in Edmonton, we had protracted spells of extreme cold all winter. It wasn’t big news back then, but we did get the weather warning when the wind chill took it way down below -40. I remember a public service announcement narrated by an 18 year old Wayne Gretzky, talking about exposed skin freezing in a matter of minutes

It’s going to be 75 and sunny here today, again. We had family in from CT and MN over the holidays and no one wanted to go home. I thought it was because we’re such great hosts, but after hearing about all this cold weather, I’m not so sure now.

Tiretread and Dataway, be thankful you aren't in Watertown, NY now. They had -32 up there. I sure don't miss it. And I don't miss the -40(overnight temp) and -83 wind chill temp we had back in the 80s. Tho it was 13 degrees here last night, it'll be down to 9 here come New Years Day morning.
![]() Stay warm guys and gals.
