I removed the factory "S" clip and put in an eaton spring set per a recommendation from a driveline shop in town, he sold me the springs. Dropped the carrier in at the same backlash and it hasnt made a peep since. It's worked pretty good for a while but it obviously needs some help. Is it possible to rebuild/refresh, or should I pony up for an Eaton?
Yes those can be rebuilt. There are better clutch packs available now as well as an assortment of springs to choose from that apply various pressures. You can set them up a little stiffer than factory if desired. Since you've had it apart and know what you're doing, it might be the route you want to take.

Easier, less time consuming, and not much more expensive to just buy a new Eaton and replace.

You using a line lock?

They help a tad with the burnouts, although, in my limited experience you will likely have some imbalance in wheel speed doing water box burnouts with a posi differential no matter the brand....
