TJ bought one in '78, as her DD. It was a D-port 455 car. We liked everything about it, except the color. The paint was a little dull. I called it OD Green. I suppose that came from my NG experience. Back then, EVERYTHING in the Army seemed to be OD green. Maybe that's why I've never liked that color.

My 79 Formula was my favorite... seeing it was the only new from the dealer car I've ever owned. My all time favorites tho are the 2 66 GTOs [I still have one of them] and the 66 Tempest Custom I've owned. Next was the 64 4 DR HT Star Chief my folks had, and was the car I learned to drive with. Actually.... they all are my favorites. How can you choose just one you've owned when they all say Pontiac on it?

Long story short, when I was in high school 10th grade I rode the bus to school. My friends Dad worked as a salesman for our local Pontiac dealership. One day after picking her up at her bus stop, her Dad was behind the bus in a brand new 1973 Brewster green TA. Buckskin color interior, still had the window stickers. I’ll never forget that. I’m not sure if it was his or if he took it home for the night. It was gorgeous.

Two body styles that were introduced in the 1970s. One, that came out the year I took driver's ed, and the other the year after I graduated H.S.
But those time coordinants are just a coincidence. I really got turned on by them a few years after they were new, when I started attending the stock car races every week in 1980.
My favorite: The 78-80 Grand Am coupes. The 1980 would be my ultimate, since it's production was ended before it even hit 2,000 units. Only produced in six colors & 2-doors. Easily identified by it's 3 grill sections per side, vs 5 sections per side on the 78-79.
I tried to buy a red one in 1989. It was the only '80 I ever got a chance to drive.
I owned a '78 GA from 1985-2005.

Close 2nd favorite: the 75-77 Ventura. A '76 or '77 SJ would be my cup of tea because they had those cool waffle board tailights and spiffy stainless lower body side panel moldings. A '75 Sprint would be just as welcome, however.
I owned a '75 Custom hatchback from 1982-1989. When I found it in the newspaper classifieds, it was like a fantasy come true. It had a V-8 and manual transmission, the latter of which I wasn't even sure was available that year, except maybe with a 6-cyl.

My dad was selling Pontiac's when the GTO first came out - so my '64 GTO Convertible is truly my dream car.

That said, my first car was a '60 Bonneville - will always have a special feeling for those cars.

In the fall of 1969, when the first Pontiac Trans Am (1970, Lucerne Blue, Ram Air, 4spd) to hit the dealership in Hibbing, MN came in, it was my dad's demonstrator for the first month. I used to rush home from school, eat real fast, so that I could go sit in it and row that 4 speed while listening to the radio (hey - this was small town America - dad always left the keys in it). I was 15 at the time. I need one of these.

Ahhhhhhhh yes these old cars sure do take us back. I wish there was a way to turn back time. Those days were un like any we will ever see again. The one good thing is we all still have the passion, and some of us can bring those times back by finding and getting that special car that we once knew in a different time and place. Ones we remember from our youth, ones that took our families places, ones we couldn’t wait to hop into behind that big ole steering wheel and pretend to be driving them, even making car sounds. ahhhhhhh yes so many memories.

My favorite Pontiac was my 73 Firebird. Why? Just because it was my first car. I wish I kept it but traded it on advise from wiser parents.

My first favorite Pontiac was the 1964 GTO . I was a senior in high school, and one of about 6 students out of maybe 250 that actually had a car (an 8 year old Ford with 200k miles, all that I could afford!).

In 1965, my favorite became the 1965 GTO, which I still believe is one of, if not the, prettiest Pontiac ever built, and I have never owned one.

I did, at one time own 3 1964 GTO's but have since sold them.

my current favorite is a 1974 GTO that has been "slightly" modified to run like a Pontiac, not like a government issue smog machine that is so safe it would survive a collision with a Sherman tank!

OH, and Maryann - this one is not John Deere green, it is "BSG" in color!

69 GTO or Judge (owned a GTO that I converted into a Judge with flames, seen in my signature picture in the parking lot behind 69 GP race car)
70 GTO or Judge (owned a pepper green RA III 4 speed Judge)
2004-2006 GTO (only car I ever bought new, yellowjacket, automatic, 2005 GTO, currently owned)
81-87 GP (currently own an 84 project car to be a NASCAR replica street driven car, 455 engine, full cage etc.)
84-88 Fiero (owned a 86 SE, and an 88 base model)
61 bubbletop (owned 2, made a Catalina, and a Ventura into stock cars in the early 70s)

I had a 1200 sq foot pole barn in Erie until I got divorced, now I have a 2 car garage an old 22 foot truck body, and I'm making a lean to off the truck body for storage. I didn't even mention the IH wrecker, or my dually truck.....LOL

Collecting coins or stamps sure takes up a lot less room.....

I have always liked the 2nd gen 76-81 black and gold cars, Smokey and the Bandit was the reason of course. The styling, interior, rims and handling was all there maybe not all the power but still felt fast. I am really liking the 3rd and 4th gens lately. I like this 3rd gen Lingenfelter. The front grill of a 66 GTO is a eye catcher and sound of a 389 tri-power is music

Firebird. Always liked them when I was a kid. Always wanted one. The same , but different than a camaro. What is a camaro??. A firebird is a Phoenix. That is not a screaming eagle on the hood. That is a Phoenix aka Firebird. That's why I bought one new and still have it. (Although mine is minus the hood Phoenix)

Of the Pontiac's I have owned, it's a tie between my 70 1/2 TA and 66 2+2 convertible 421 HO 4-speed. They were very different, but I really loved them both. The TA because it did everything really well. Nice and tight, great handling, good brakes, decent power with the Ram Air III 400, really pretty, still modern. The 2+2 because it was a real sleeper and surprised the heck out of anyone who rode in it or lined up against it. Brutally quick to 80 MPH, (would smoke the 70 TA), handled surprisingly well for it's size, comfort for 5, pound for pound, one of pontiac's prettiest cars.
