The problem is that most land lines have now gone digital or off a cable line. Mine for example came off my cable box and required AC power. For me personally, the cell phone was the more reliable so it was easy to drop the land line

That is awesome! I do a really good accent also. I have T-mobile and I get a lot of "Scam likely" calls. I rarely answer my phone and people leave me messages like: Call me. Why the heck don't they just tell me what they want? lol My land line is also unplugged because 90% of the calls are BS and I never answered it anyways.

Our local police chief received an IRS spam call in his office. He decided to take the call and play along. As he's playing the game he's recording everything as he has video/audio monitoring equipment in his office. Long story short, he decided to make the call a Public Service Announcement to better inform people how NOT to respond and how NOT to provide any information.

Got a real dumb one the other day, some unknown number, and for some reason I picked up, Blame the wife, silence was on the other end so I did same

Important lesson to learn here: NEVER answer a call if you do not absolutely know who is calling, no matter what the caller ID says about name or origin. I've actually gotten calls with my own name and number on caller ID!
1. These calls come from offshore and they can spoof any name and number they want with impunity.
2. If you answer AT ALL, you have given the caller valuable information that they can sell to other scammers, including that a live person will answer at that number and what time of day it was. Thjs will increase the number of calls you get.
3. If you answer and say ANYTHING, they can record your voice and use it for nefarious purposes. Every single thing that happens after you pick up the phone can be scraped for value by the scammers.

NEVER answer, even if you are just trying to prank them. May be fun, but also may be costly to you in some way.

If I do answer a call that i don't recognize, I will answer and stay totally silent. A lot of these bots wait until they're triggered by a human voice, then start their spiel...if you say nothing, it'll "hang up" and you'll hear a busy signal.
I did this yesterday as I was expecting a call but didn't know the number that it would be coming from. Did get a call and answered and waited...the woman I was expecting to call spoke, so I then proceeded.

Cancelled our landline a year ago. Now, we get just as many, or more, spam calls on our mobile phones. Since I get calls from Pontiac people looking to get their carburetors restored, I answer quite a few unknowns. My wife's advice is to not answer the unknowns--saying if they are not spam, they can leave a voicemail.

The spam situation is out of hand big time!! The NO-CALL list is a joke--just another thing our government can't handle.

I object to getting my info on a list of ANY kind. With all the hacking going around, a NO Call list is ripe for someone getting it and selling info.

Also, the NO CALL list is worthless in preventing spam calls. If you tell a spam caller you have signed up for the list, they just keep talking. There will be a solution someday, but none is available today, except to exclude all calls not listed on your phone contacts. That would stop calls from friend, relatives, businesses, etc., who may not be in your contact list, but blocking calls from them would not be your aim.

I feel the frustration. Just as a side note.......the other night I got 5 calls in a row telling me Microsoft was cutting my OS off in 24 hours unless I followed the queue number to talk to someone....I didn't. The interesting thing is the calls came in on my landline and the caller ID displayed my landline number. I wish I would stop calling myself with these scams...................!!!!

What I did ,after receiving up to 22 robo calls on my cell from some credit card services' wiith my area code and cell phone prefix and being in my shop I started answering laying my cell in front of my horn and letting the horn go the second time that day the guy started his talk and I let the horn blow, he called me every name he could think within 15 minutes I got another robo and just happen to be the same guy ,the same treatment,the next day i started getting calls but a recorded message,so now if a call er is not on my call list I don't answer

I get about 30 robocalls and spam calls per day, even on the weekends. Worse, I get upwards of 400 spam emails per DAY. I have filters galore on my phone, but, it isn't fun, nor controllable.

I just saw on Fox News about three weeks ago, and I can't remember the state, I think maybe Tennessee, that the state government is going to attempt to enact legislation banning robocalls. Haven't heard any more of it just yet, but this is something that should be nation-wide, not jus tone state.

I got one last evening for a seriously discounted "vacation to Las Vegas, obviously a casino/hotel trying to drum up more business, until the caller found out I wasn't married, nor had a girlfriend, when that happened, deal was a dead player.

Some people have fun with the callers, they just say "YES" to every question, drives the scammers nuts.

I think the reason for robo calls now is the fact that if you get a human to talk to and you tell them to remove you from their call list they are required to do it.No human no issue on their end!Tom
