Got the belt today and it measures exactly 15/32 using my machinists rule.
With that said, it actually rides about 1/8" high in the water pump pulley groove but looks good on the crank and ps pump pulleys. Further research required. My water pump and timing cover was changed at some point to an 11 bolt unit so who knows that the pulley came from.
I'll pull it off soon to check the part number. The good thing is that everything is quiet again. I dunno, it may wear down into the groove with some run time. I ran it for about 5 minutes tops.

Right, 9530. Frankly, the thinner belt worked fine for years so I may have created an issue where there really isn't one. I do know what the FSM calls for and the 9530 meets those specs..

Yeah, l just came back here to confirm.. My pulley is 3890419 CT... It's a Chevy pulley. Corvette keeps popping up in searches but probably any 64-69 Chevy.

Have the correct pulley on the way. Hard to believe that the wrong pulley has been on this car for probably 20 years.
Actually, now that I think about it, the PS and Alt. belts have always looked just a hair out of alignment with each other when viewed from the side.

I think I just gave away a set that would have worked for you ... from a 71 V8 with AC/PS.

1971 W/P pulleys have a deeper offset than the pulleys used on 1968 vehicles due to the longer snout on the 11-bolt W/P vs the 8-bolt.

Kenth, when you get an opportunity, could you post the '69 and later pulley part number? I can't read it in the '69 Assembly Manual pages.

If the above is accurate, it's the pulley that I need.
I think the long snout wp may have been a mid-year '69 deal and so the ones on the page listed by OG68, I think are still for the short pump.

Never was a mid '69 model factory installed deal. The tall 11 bolt waterpump, the "124" was first introduced with the production rollout of the '70 models in mid August of '69. The oddity that took place is '69 Firebirds continued to be built up into Nov '69 & their engines from what I've noted over the years were built with the 351" casting (short) 11 bolt wp.

As a service parts procedure, Pontiac advised dealerships in replacement of original '69 waterpumps to install the tall '70 (or later) casting wp along with swapping to the '70 design wp pulley. This is easily noted in Master Parts Books. This service procedure worked fine on '69 A, B, & GP series cars, but not on '69 F-body's with 4core radiators.

Thank you. I have this figured out now. Got the useless (to me) pulley in the mail today and now looking for the correct one. Basically a 6-1/2" diameter, 2-3/4" deep, two groove wp pulley for a Pontiac. Part number 9799128 fits the bill.

Just got the gates 9530 ... it does ride a bit high in my original 68 pulleys. Tough to say without tension and running it in a few minutes.

Mine rides ok in the PS pump and crank pulley....maybe just a hair high in the crank but the noticeable error was in the wp pulley. Working on that now as I think I finally have the correct one coming. We'll see soon enough.
