2 days at Sandia Raceway road track personally putting the hurt to a newer Corvette and Camaro; this in a 1979 Trans Am. Would have been much harder with a 800 series box; IROC, GC or otherwise. The Delphi/600/Turn One IS that much of an improvement. $799 in my config at Turn One - worth every penny.

I had two turn ones in x frame chevrolets. I was not impressed with them BUT they were on frame adapters on a car that was never meant for performance. They may be great boxes but when I called them the box they wanted me to by was at 1200 with shipping. I’m not gonna seriously autocross this car so that was a no go. Plus I feel like the tech was not listening to my intentions he just wanted to sell a box. I buy based on experience of others or from vendors that listen. That’s why I am taking my car to Tampa to have it painted. The owner asked me questions and the listened and made no interjections of his own. That’s what I wanted and that’s what I got from personal messages and talking to the people at Borgeson. By the way their box has the .210 torsion bar that is so sought after

By the way no hard feelings and I do appreciate your input. If turn one had recommended a 700 box that would have been an option but not 1200.

A fwiw, same as mine in my AGR box. Great road feel ! Not 'standard' that way, I special ordered it with the .210 valving.

Why do you have $20,000 worth of parts in your garage for a car that's year's from being on the road?

Here are a few reasons:

You're selling your blue interior you purchased years before you were going to need it and are now going with a black interior.

You bought rims with the wrong backspacing and tires that would work with them for your car years before you were going to be able to drive the car.

And now you're apparently worried about saving $50.00 on a steering box???

I am 2 1/2 years out on the final stage, body and paint and upholstery. I have 20k of parts because the car is disassembled and labeled in boxes. I didn’t buy the wrong wheels or tires, I have 255/45/18 on all four corners, didn’t want anymore than that. The engine is built and assembled. That’s 11,000 right there. Talk about **** you know about. The seat covers and carpet were bought when I was just gonna freshen it up and do it as I drove it before it turned into a frame off. I didn’t have anything but the seat covers and carpet. I sense a little hater in your tone.

1. The car being disassembled and in boxes doesn't count towards the $20,000 of parts. It's just the original car in pieces.

2. You must have purchased a second set of rims and tires already, because your original purchase was rims with the wrong BS (3.75' IIRC) and that forced your to buy much smaller and narrower tires (26" diameter IIRC).

I was one of several that were trying to help you in selecting rims that would work on your car but you didn't want to spend the money to buy rims with adequate BS. I'll be interested to know what your BS is now and how you're going to get 255/45/18's (27" tall) under the front end of a '64.

3. Spending $11,000 for an engine for a car that was still 3.5 years away from being done when built may be why your project is taking so long.

Original 326 Auto with power steering, brake, and dealer installed non working AC.

Built a custom roller cammed 467 all forged internals. TKO 600 trans with Ford 9 inch from Quick Performance with 3.70 geared aluminum thru bolt center section with billet pinion support with an Eaton tru trac. Plans are for car to be Silver Mist Gray with Dark Blue Interior. Keeping bench seat and adding air conditioning.

A custom roller cammed 467, TKO 600 and a Ford 9" is not a "freshen up" as you claim above.

The engine and trans were never in the plan till the car came off the frame. I drove it ratty looking for a year with the worn out 326. I NEVER bought a wheel with that backspacing. Hell even the standard torq thrust is 4.5 right off the shelf

Well, you did buy some wheels and tires (and not 255/45/18's) back in June of 2017. The tires are almost 4 years old and by your own words you're still 2.5 years away from driving your car:

Anybody ever use this brand? I just bought a set of torque thrust knockoffs on summit for 121 dollars a wheel. That's a lot better than the 600 bucks I was being quoted for custom back spacing American Racing wheels. I went with an 1&x8 with 235/45/18 all around on an 18x8 rim.

There's a lot of difference between a 26.3" tire and a 27" tall tire, not to mention the extra .75" tire section width.

Champ, If he put the front end on the car, even one fender, he might see that there is, as you posted, very little room for the larger diameter tires at the bottom of the rear wheel opening of the front fender. You can mount any tire on a vehicle when the front end is off of the car.

Regardless, I showed 64speeds own post where he stated that he bought 235/45/18's, not 255/45/18's.

I just get tired of all the BS that speed spreads and his asking time after time the same question. He's been asking about steering boxes for close to 5 years now - paralysis by over analysis as I posted earlier.

Jeep GC boxes, Monte Carlo boxes, rebuilt boxes, Lee boxes, Delphi boxes, Lares boxes. It never ends.

Tom, when I put disc brakes on the front, my problem was the bottom of the front wheel opening on the front fender with a 235/60/15 with 4.25" BS on a 7" wide rim. I would have needed 5" BS on an 8" rim to clear that same tire with disc brakes.

That's why I ordered 4.625" BS on my 7" wide rims for my current 215/55/17's that are 26.3" tall on the front. That would equate to 5.125" BS on an 8" rim.

No way he gets a 255/45/18 on the front of a '64 with a 27" tall tire that's .75" wider.
