I've never had a problem with Rockauto that wasn't solved to my satisfaction. They send return shipping labels when I needed to return something which is more than most companies would do. Over the years I've received wrong or damaged parts from most every company that I did a lot of business with. I don't think Rockauto is any worse than the others.

I had been happy with Rock Auto, up until the last couple years. Poor packaging mostly. Like sending control arms in the same box as oil filters with only paper stuffing in the box.

Not that long ago, I read about an Amazon Prime customer they banned.
"Too many returns". Seems some of the goods he returned were allegedly
counterfeit. And, just recently, there was a news blurb about how Amazon
just purged a simply staggering amount of... counterfeit goods.

Seems to me that returns should involve more than processing a refund.
Bad customers AND bad vendors can ruin a good thing in no time flat.

Default Wow

The only mail order I use are Ames and Summit racing.
After that it’s NAPA and only NAPA. I know the guys there
And never have an issue.
Ames is a great vendor and would glad pay more for their
Great service.
Napa is the same.

Default This is my biggest complaint with RockAuto.

Whoever invented those stupid little plastic pillows for packing should be dragged behind a Firebird for 1/4 mile. Twice.....

Some of the RockAuto warehouses obviously have no idea how to package things for shipping.

They need to be trained that if you put a starter motor in an outer box twice as big as the starter box and then fill up all the space with those stupid 'air pillows', they'll all just pop along the way.

Not that they'll care - probably........

But it's hard to beat the pricing. Especially on closeout stuff.

I use Rock Auto, and luckily the parts I ordered were robust enough that they survived poor packaging. I would not order that I didn't think could handle poor packaging.

On a separate note, about a year ago, I ordered a power steering to hydro-boost unit hose for my 2500 Suburban. I ordered a premium part because I tow with the vehicle, and I prefer to use quality parts in the braking system. I don't remember the brand I used, but the bends in the steel line were slightly different from the original part. The hose absolutely refused to mate with my gearbox, the hard line hit the exhaust manifolds. I ended up using a tubing bender to adjust the part, but I still wonder if it was counterfeit. It hasn't caused me an issue, but the old truck has only been driven about 1000 miles a year since Covid.
